Oct. 29th, 2012 07:19 pmLaundry done.... check
Packed....check (except for last minute things)
Tickets for the Colosseum and the Vatican bought and printed....check
Lift to the airport... more or less secured.
The last minute stuff is always fretful.... did i forget anything i can't replace? How heavy is this damn suitcase this time? I have to haul it around myself this time once i land. I really hope that I'll be able to check the bags through even though I'm changing to British Airways, which is not Star Alliance like Air Canada is. British Midland is no longer doing the Heathrow-Manchester shuttle apparently. bmi is Star Alliance so the bags always went through. I hope BA will take the transfer because it will be a pain in the ass otherwise and it will mean i have to go through customs in Terminal 3 before hauling everything over to Terminal 5, rechecking it. Blech.
The new laptop at work is mystifying. It grabs and loses the internal wifi network at will. When i do have it, though the signal seems strong, the internet is excrutiatingly slow. It seems to find the network and keep it when not in the docking station but even then, it won't let me log into things. They've opened a work order for it. We'll see. I may be doing something wrong or not. The people sitting on either side of me have no problems at all so i can't be sitting in a dead zone. Of course when i took it to the Service Desk office it worked perfectly. My coworker has had similar problems when hers was new and then one day it just started working and hasn't had a problem with it since. Bizarre. I'm maintaining my old desktop too because there's things on it i need that won't run on Win7 but i shouldn't have to use the network cable all the time. That's the whole point of wireless.
