Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lola_is_naughty!
And Happy Easter to those that celebrate. I don't as such but it's nice to have an extended long weekend off and Mom is having ham and scalloped potatoes today!  Yum!

I made the excursion to the Halifax Shopping Centre yesterday. I say excursion because, by bus, it's further away on the other side of Halifax. I change busses at the terminal, cross the harbour bridge and then take the slow boat to china, or at least it feels like it. The bus that takes you from Dartmouth terminal all the way to the door of the mall goes the long way around though not as wandering as one other that goes from the same terminal. Just as easy to get on the number 1 and stay on it rather than change to another more direct bus that I would have to wait for anyway.

The reason I went there was twofold. I wanted to go to the Apple store because I had been told that it might be possible to purchase an upgrade to the operating system of my iPod touch. 3rd generation. iTunes says it's up to date and won't update it any further but there have been a couple of apps i've tried to get that won't run on it, needing a newer OS than mine has. One is a city guide by Trip Advisor and it works on Graham's 4th gen. Alas, it's not possible, they don't sell upgrades like that and of course the older models aren't sold anymore or supported as far as upgrades go. I know the newer ones have features and technology the older one doesn't have so i suppose that's one reason why the OS upgrade wouldn't be possible. anyway, it still works perfectly fine for music and the few other things i do use on it from time to time so there's no need in buying a new one.

The other reason I went there was to visit the Sephora store. That's a makeup wonderland! I'd long heard of the place and we finally had one open here awhile back but I'd never got out there to check it out until now. Very nice! I don't wear much makeup as a rule unless i'm going out but i have been having trouble with my skin breaking out over the past year or so and i thought i could get something that might help. It really bugs me because i've *never* had problem skin, not even as a teenager but now, well, i call it "Menopause Face". I think there's also roseacia as well which is in the family but although i had the redness, i never had acne until the last year or so. Mostly my chin but sometimes elsewhere and lately, my forehead has been itchy and rashy. It's all in the "T-Zone" from forehead, down around the nose and chin. I don't tend to have oily skin and even that area isn't really oily but probably a little more there than the rest of my face. I am going to ask the doctor about it again, too. She gave me a gel for the redness a few years ago but it didn't do anything much.

Anyway one of the sales staff at Sephora sold me a face scrub with exfoliating grits in it and a facial mask so maybe that will do something in the longer run. I don't expect overnight immediate results but it would be nice to have it a bit more under control.

Nice store, though. I browsed a bit more and picked up an eye liner and mascara and then began looking for a particular deep emerald shade of eye shadow. Again, don't use it much but i have a few green and aqua green tops that it would go with. I didn't find the exact shade i wanted in something that wasn't really glittery or frosty so I went across the hallway to the MAC store, who, I bet, is pissed right off that Sephora opened up right across from them. The MAC store is very small but it was busy which was good to see. I did find what i wanted there though it was a mineral loose powder shadow. I have a few of them already though i'd have preferred a solid. Doesn't really matter and the powder does go a long way.

Picked up a new travel hair dryer too. My old one seems to be broken. It starts up but the shuts itself down within a minute or two and won't start up again. I think maybe it has an overheating breaker and perhaps that's what's happening. Time for a new one. I need a dual voltage one, obviously and they had a cheap one in the drug store. Sephora had them. for twice the cost, naturally. Or was it in the luggage store I saw them, I forget now. They also have a great kitchen store there with loads of lovely gadgets and things and the biggest sporting goods store I've ever seen! It's in the location that used to be a good sized grocery store and it uses up the whole of it.

The Apple store was very busy. I did stop to have a quick look at the iPad mini which was bigger than i expected it was. It's a little bigger than my eReader, similar in size to the Blackberry Playbook, i guess about a 7 inch size perhaps. If I was tempted at all, that's a more convenient size really for carrying around though if i ever did decide to go that route i might be more tempted by an Android system. I'm not tempted, mind you, but there's nothing wrong with looking at the toys!
