Aug. 6th, 2013 08:41 amI have had a very nice weekend and the weather was mostly very good, too. I had that nice little road trip on Saturday and Sunday I headed north to Moncton, New Brunswick for an overnight visit with my best friend J. She doesn't get down to Halifax much as her teenage boys keep her really busy with all their activities. They need a chauffeur as they don't drive yet and her husband is away a lot, he flies for an airline that does a lot of cargo around the maritimes. So i drove up Sunday morning, it's about a 2.5 hour drive. We went for a walk along the river front there but it was too hot to go too far and I was dressed all in black! We had hodgepodge for supper and strawberry shortcake!
Hodgepodge is a kind of vegetable soup, sort of, where you cook yellow and green beans, fresh peas, new potatoes, and really, anything else you like such as fresh corn off the cob etc. Don't drain the liquid, but add light cream to it. You can also put in some onion or garlic salt, but you will need some salt and pepper or it will be a bit flat. And butter. Throw a wodge of butter on it too. Great way to use fresh garden produce!
Drove back yesterday and decided not to go gas up the rental car until later. But i then couldn't get the car to start. The key wouldn't turn! Aggghh! I think it was an anti-theft lock that kicks in, something about how you jerk the steering wheel just after you turn off the car, or something odd. I don't know what I did but I obviously did something to trip the lock. I thought i'd have to wait until the rental company opened this morning to call them but i remembered this happened to me once before while Mom and i were away. I'd called my nephew then and he told me how to fix it. I searched out my travelogue for that journey and sure enough, I had noted the solution. Praying to the Travel Gods that would work again, I went out this morning and tried it. It's magic!!! :) I nearly forgot to get gas before hitting going over the bridge to Halifax but i did remember and luckily there's a gas station at the bridge. Pumped up and got to work and dropped off the car.
