Dec. 6th, 2014 05:26 pmI had a lovely day! I did go to that Gothic Christmas craft show and sale and to the musuem where I took in the small Steampunk exhibit and one other that was next to it on the Celts/Gaels who ended up here in Nova Scotia. We have a strong Celtic heritage here. Nova Scotia actually means New Scotland, after all.
Anyway. The Gothic show was excellent. I got there fairly early so tho it was busy it wasn't too bad. I did the round of the room once and then went back to buy a few things. There was a lot of different kinds of items, too many to list of course. They advertise themselves as "goth, steampunk, fairies, Victoriana, anime" and along that lines. I saw one table that had a variety of wooden wands, and a Vampire Killer kit! One booth, the one i was hoping to see, has the most amazing unique jewellry. She had "elf ears" that fit around your ears, and lots of necklaces and bracelets. The one I bought was something new that she's just created. It was inspired by the tv show Once Upon a Time which i did watch in the first season but dropped it after that. Robert Carlyle plays Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin and these pendants that were created were inspired by that. They have threads of gold encased in crystal, surrounded by a silver band. The threads are meant to be the straw that was spun into gold! She has only made 24 of them for the show. I picked one out and I love it! It doesn't photograph well but you can see what I mean. (there's a link to a photo album below)
I bought a sample packet of tea that seems to be like a chai mix and one of a drinking chocolate and I bought a tree ornament that's red sparkly covered in sheer black with gold chain on it. So many interesting things! Saw a pottery piece that looked like a dalek with the top part that came off. The lady suggested it could be used as a little teapot! Yes, or just for your mug of tea/coffee with the lid to keep it warm. Most of the vendors were dressed in costume and looked awesome. The show was partly sponsorted by a local group, the Jules Verne Phantastical Society who also put on the exhibit at the museum of Natural History where i headed next.
The exhibit was just in one room and not a lot there, but there were interesting and informative signs on all the aspects and history of Steampunk and they had some fashion examples and some wonderful creations as well including a large weapon looking thing which was apparently a "sky hook". The other impressive thing was a winged creature inside a cage. Again, photos through the link below.
And here's some photos
I got through both things in just two hours so I had a lot more to the rest of my day than expected. I filled up the gas tank in the car and came home. I put my Christmas tree together, and wow, everything plugged in and worked the first time!! I still have to put decorations on it and I'll pick at that over the next couple of days. I did dishes, I watched Friday's Corrie, got caught up on webby stuff. I have chicken and potatoes roasting in the over and man does it smell good! Better go check, it might be nearly done from the smell of it.
