Fog creeps in on little cat feet

tvordljI must look up that quote, i know it's from a poem but i can't think what just offhand. It's appropriate though, as Halifax has been under a fog bank since Friday and it's forecast to be rainy all week. At the moment though, it's snowing!!! It was raining and very wet earlier and it wasn't that cold so i guess this is just a momentary aberration. th esnow is heavy and wet and slushy and after 10 minutes is already starting to turn back into rain.
I do like the fog though, it feels "soft", mutes everything but it's hell to drive in at night. I dislike driving at night in the rain as well although it's not too bad until you get to roads where there are several lanes. With the street lights on and the road all wet, you can't see the lane markings. I'd love to be able to paint the fog. I saw a print once of a street intersection all fogged over, you could only just see a building looming on one side, and a power line strung across the picture with a traffic light hanging down, glowing green from out of the fog. Very moody. But i'm only just learning how to do stuff that's in the shadows.
Funny how the painting always looks better from a bit of a distance or in a photo. I never think what i'm working on looks like much but my nose is 6 inches from the canvas. when i see it in a photo or from a few feet away, even better, in low light i think DAMN that's GOOD! And i surprise myself. It would be cool to be able to do portraits that actually look like the person involved rather than a picasso or something from the Simpsons. I'll have to stick to the camera for that i think.

sammantha is leaving for London on Thursday night and *whine* i want to go tooooo!!!! Will put heads together with naturalbornkaos before i go and we'll see what kind of plans we can put together for a gathering of some sort while i'm there (July 7 - 11)
Snow has stopped. Spitting rain has recommenced. Best get my day started.
