Now Where Were We?

Last i left off on my travels, i told you about missing the train to Manchester.
I did get there after 1 and saw him right away waiting where he said he would be. But just as he would have spotted me and my luggage, some tourists asked him a quesiton and he turned away. Damn, i didn't want to be 6 inches away when he first saw me so i held back a minute then was about 10 feet away when we made eye contact. Then it was like something out of a movie with us clutching on to one another in the midst of a busy train station, everything really did seem to fade away around us! I just could hardly believe i was there and he was there and ... oh ... wow...
Anyway the rest of the day was spent getting reaquainted and then doing laundry over at his dad's, and then a quiet night in with a takeaway.
Tuesday: Walked around Manchester city center, visited the art gallery, did a bit of shopping, sat in the sun for awhile just chatting and people watching. Out to Chorlton to meet Annie, Alan, John and Nikki for a chinese meal (New Mai Wah on Barlow Moor Road, very good!). Lots of laughs, good food, good company.
Wednesday: Train toYork to meet
steer for lunch and a drink at the Last Drop Inn in the historic center of York. The beer and food and especially the company was very "moreish" but we did part after a few hours, Steer hoping to get some work accomplished. Apparently he did not, LOL. We checked out the Richard Third museum in Monkgate Bar and walked some of the ancient city walls behind the gardens that back onto the Cathedral area. Window shopped, had tea, back to Manchester in the late evening.
Thursday: Travel to Ireland. Early flight to Dublin but it was chucking down raining so i didnt go into the city, also thinking i might not really have enough time to have a good walk around and lunch but it turned out my connecting flight to Cork was an hour and a half delayed. I sat in the airport for hours in all, bored and nearly asleep. Did a bit of shopping. Arrived in Cork, had a drink and waited another hour for Graham's flight to arrive. (had made all my flight arrangements long before we ended up making plans to go to Ireland together). Rose's friend Tony picked us up and took us to the hotel, lovely place called the Bella Vista. Met up with Jane, Rose, Trish and Mal at one pub but they had had their licence revoked so we had dinner at the hotel where the wedding was going to be. Excellent food. Off to the Titanic bar for drinks on the outside patio bar which was chilly. Trad music playing, step dance lessons to watch, Rose sang a song or two. Off to the late bar in our hotel for a nightcap.
Friday: Graham and i walked around Cobh and visited the Queenstown Story museum. Met the others at the church for the wedding rehearsal and then off to a chinese meal in Cobh. Graham got left behind at the church unfortunately. That's what he gets for being a good guy and was helping someone lock up the church. The car that he was supposed to be traveling back downtown in thought they were supposed to be waiting for "Greg" and they already had him in their clutches so off they went. When we got to the restaurant, no Gramie! Rose went back out and caught up with him at the hotel where he had been dropped off by the woman at the church. We had been having some difficulties getting the mobile phones to work in Ireland, just teething pains i think as we weren't used to being outside of the country using them. Meal was very good.
Saturday: Wedding day. Wedding went off very well, no hitches other than the couple themselves getting hitched. Lovely old stone church. Think the photos will be nice. Photos outside church, drinks in the bar at the hotel, meal excellent. Speeches and photos, dancing and drinking. One of the guests had a mini pc, looked a bit like a pda or a palm pilot with a baby keyboard attached and he hooked it up to connect to irc so we coro folk got to included some of our mates in the chat room in the wedding "ping" which was fun. We were all silly with drinkage and having a blast. Walked by the bride about midnight or so and she was indeed having a great time, "Sure, I'm wozzled!!!" she giggled. Guess so lol A good time was had by all.
Sunday: :o( taxi to the airport after breakfast, leaving Graham at Rose's for the day as his flight wasn't until the evening. Such a wrench parting but the week really was magic, everything we thought it would be. Off to Heathrow and the Holiday Inn. Didn't bother going into the city, had a little walk down the road and had supper in a nice old pub called the Three Magpies. Quiet night in at the hotel with a newspaper, chocolate for consolation and the telly. Home on Monday after spending a bit more money in Past Times and the Duty Free in Heathrow.
So there you have it in a nutshell. It was a busy holiday, i walked miles with the blisters to prove it. Met up with lots of LJ and coro friends, wonderful to meet some of you for the first time and equally great to touch base with others again. Special thanks to
naturalbornkaos for lending me the sofa and organizing the LJ pub GTG and to John who sorted out the Chinese meal in Manchester. Thanks also to
sushidog for inviting me to the Vicarage Tea where i met more lovely people including a couple that had met on the internet and have now been married 8 years. Success stories like that are encouraging. Thanks to everyone that took the time to meet, drink, lunch and chat! I shall be back sooner or later!
Highlight of course was my week with
gramie_dee, i could go on and on but i will spare you and save that for his ears only ;) I shall have photos soon and will work on the full written travelogue and post the links as and when.
