Happy First Face Day, Sweetie

One year ago on this date, i got off a train (an hour later than expected as it happened) and crossed a busy concourse. He didn't see me at first because someone had asked him for directions. The next thing i knew, our faces were inches apart and time stood still. It was the first face to face meeting with
gramie_dee and the week exceeded our expectations. We decided that July 12th would be our "first face day" anniversary and he actually sent me a card to mark it :) We're still looking forward. More and more i've heard of successful relationships that started on the internet. Yes, a few still fail in the end but that's not any different than those where people have met offline.

Date: 2005-07-13 12:02 am (UTC)re meeting on the internet..I still feel it can be an awesome way to get to KNOW someone..if both people are open and honest and find the anonymity good for opening up and chatting up a storm, however, I feel for the most part, you have a better chance of it working if you live a hell of a lot nearer to each other.
In my case, he was from England as well..but he just could not bring himself to change his life drastically to move here..and I DO understand that. It is a major thing to do, MAJOR, and to be fearful the relationship will not work..well you have left your job and family etc.
In sis's case tho, I think if anyone can bridge the barrier of the distance, it would be Graham and my sis - and why do I think that especially after my experience? Because it also depends on the character of the person..and their basic personality. Graham is not like Gary in a lot of ways..and I think he has more of the type of character that COULD make this work.
However, I think the odds are not good for a distance thing..yet the ones in the minority that DO make it work, it works 100% and kudos to them. I know of a few couples who have done this and are still doing wonderfully!

Date: 2005-07-13 12:38 am (UTC)Distance is of course an obstacle and the personalities make a big difference. I'd have to say 80% of the couples i know that had a long distance relationship have worked out. (i.e. north america to the UK) pretty good odds.
