Seeing as quite a few people on my flist are looking forward to a gig by the Bauhaus (forgive me if that should just be Bauhaus ... what do i know? LOL) Anyway, i decided to download a few tunes to see what they were like. Hard to know what to pick so i just went by titles that i liked. Of the ones i tried, i liked about half and one of my favourites is an industrial mix of Passion of Lovers. [livejournal.com profile] naturalbornkaos it reminds me a little of some of the industrial mix stuff you did a few years ago, or reminiscent of it anyway. Anyway i liked that one. Also kind of liked the cover of Ziggy Stardust but really hated a cover of Spirit in the Sky and also disliked Of Lilies and Remains, Dancing. Also liked Sanity Assassin, Theme from the Lost Boys (soundtrack) and All In My Mind. Another song that was tagged as Bauhaus appears to actually be Love and Rockets "Holy Fool" but i like it. The ones i didn't like i found a bit too punk. That's the only way i can describe it.

So the question is... what other Bauhaus tracks can i try that i might like given the list of the ones i like? Anything else to suggest? (i do this about once a year and usually manage to get a handful of new tracks and artists that i quite like!

"Bela Lugosi's Dead" is THE classic Bauhaus song and the song that launched a thousand goths.

And two guys from Bauhaus went on to form Tones on Tail who then became Love and Rockets - so the mistagging is understandable.

Ahh i thought they sounded the like the same singer. I saw that other one but had trouble getting a decent download so i'll try again later. Thanks :)

It's not the same singer, unless you've got some later Bauhaus where Daniel Ash/David J sang, Pete Murphy wasn't around for a lot of the last album, Burning From the Inside, as he was ill. Pete Murphy (singer) went solo, Daniel Ash (guitar/vocals), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass/vocals) formed Love and Rockets. David J has also done a lot of solo stuff, I've got a "best of" of his solo stuff and it's very good, including his collaboration with Alan Moore on "This Vicious Cabaret" from V For Vendetta.

Oh, and I've heard people call them The Bauhaus, but as far as I'm aware it's just Bauhaus.

Full biog here.

Ok, clearly one of the bands that are your favourite, you have a lot of info on them! :))) Thanks!

It might have just been a similar sounding voice, i dunno. I shall see if i can find some of the David J stuff as well and shall refer to the band as just Bauhaus :) is the S pronounced or is it pronounced similar to "bowow" or "bowhow" as it looks German in the spelling.

Yeah, I was a big fan when I was in my teens!

It's bow-hows, s is pronounced, it is German, they're named after a famous German design school. http://www.bauhaus.de/english/

They even ripped off their logo from the school! (The blocky face design.)

David J solo - I like "Can't Shake This Shadow of Fear" and "This Vicious Cabaret" is absolutely essential.
