Just want to let everyone know my sister Laurie is now an LJ user. [livejournal.com profile] sammantha If you want to stop by and say Hey.

In other news, the Ick factor has kicked in. Went to the dentist this morning for the semi annual radiation and scrape (x-rays and cleaning) and I mentioned a back molar that's been giving me a little trouble lately. I thought i might need a root canal but it turns out it's already had one. The Hygienist said the crown was a little loose and took extra xrays but the dentist is pretty sure the tooth or root underneath is cracked. The tooth was too fragile to withstand the root canal and crown in the long run and he says he can't save the tooth!!!!! that means an extraction and a bridge or something to put in so the other teeth don't realign. I think my insurance covers most if not all of the extraction but not sure about the bridge. Happy fucking new year LOL!

Welcome to the club! The silver lining is that crowns and stuff are less traumatic than the root canal work.
This reminds me that British and US dentists have totally different methods and approach to such work. I wonder where Canadian dentists fit in.

Dunno. I've had three root canals and they weren't that bad, you get all frozen up so it's just a long tedious thing. A bit of ache after but it was never a traumatic experience. I am not looking forward to an extraction. I imagine there will be more pain once the freezing is out in part due to stitches. *sigh*

That probably means you don't have corkscrew root canals as I apparently do; and probably that Canadian dentists adopt the more alarmingly businesslike, but slightly less stressful approach of the US. All of which is a good thing!!

But I must admit I've avoided stitches after an extraction since my wisdom teeth were excavated- only word for it- years ago, so I'll be holding my jaw in admiration as well as sympathy when the time comes.

I have had gum surgery after one of the root canals didnt' quite take due to ... LOL i guess a corkscrew root, it was bent at the bottom. They had to go in through the gum and do the rest of the work. I minded that far worse than the root canals. My cheek rubbed the stitches and i did need to take something for the pain.
