Got home, turned on the telly as usual and then tried to change the channel. Nothing. The universal remote that works the digital tuner wouldn't work. (just realized it did turn the tv on though it refused to do anything after that). I tried new batteries. Nada. I even tried the buttons on the digital tuner itself and nothing happened but that worked after i unplugged it and powered it back again. I had to change from channel 32 to 275 standing there waiting for it. The old fashioned way sort of! :) I called Eastlink just to see if there was anything else i could do but he seemed to think it was pretty dead too. Ok. well. I could go over to MicMac Mall and get a new one for about $20 (remote, not tuner). I couldn't even get the tv off then. Tried the tv's remote and it wasn't working either but turns out one of it's batteries was corroded. New batteries in that and i could turn the telly off.

Over to MicMac i go and present the dead remote. My tuner is really, really old, it was the first ones they were offering back when Accesswave was the cable provider in Dartmouth or it might have been when Shaw took them over because "Shaw" was on the remote. anyway. The nice lady there tried out a couple of pieces on their machinery and gave me one of them. No charge. :))))) Plus she left the batteries in it! Bonus! Got it home and it worked and i figured out the codes for the tv and vcr buttons on the universal too. Now i just have to get used to the locations of the buttons i spent the last 10 years using in other places on the remote! Poor old thing, it probably didn't even know what happened! Just one blurp and poof!

I always hated universal remotes myself, getting the codes to function never really worked for me. Glad you got it all sorted!

I hate remotes. All of them. WE have about 8 of them, and between satellite, TV, VCR, DVD, and XBox I get Sooooo confused. We have two universals, and they both work differently.

You'd never know that computers and technology were my specialties... I can set up a webserver, run a website and even tear a computer apart and put it back together. I cannot for the life of me operate my remote controls! I would throw the thing before I'd get the codes into a new universal. Great for you that you could manage that!! :)

The codes for the universal for Eastlink are on an Eastlink document. I only had to try 2 for each. I know what you mean about computers. I can't do quite as much as you, but i program and i can install software but the inside of a machine scares me lol

I know my way around a computer too, but have been reduced to a pile of quivering frustration by the VCR which refuses to let me program it. :|
