tvordlj: (Friday Five)

I chuckled while looking at my coffee cup this morning. Down the side of the Starbucks cup are a series of check boxes for the staff to note what you've asked for. For example: Decaf, check. Milk, check, shots, check. That sort of thing. And the last check box is "Drink". huh? I'm not aware that they fill the cups with anything that is not a drink unless it's something i get to check off when i drink it? *shrug* What makes me laugh now is most businesses now place a warning on the cup, too, that the drink is very hot. All because some stupid woman trying to balance her coffee between her thighs while driving spilled it and got burned and sued McDonald's up the wazoo for not warning her that the coffee was hot. I wonder who was supposed to warn her that she's an idiot?

And because it's Friday....

1. Do you dance?
Um, not much these days but i used to love it.

2. Would you consider yourself religious?
No. Brought up Catholic but don't have much use for the tenets of that one these days. I think i'm more in the general area of believing in things spiritual, as well as things like the travel gods, the bus gods, etc.

3. Do you talk about politics?
A little. I do try to at least keep up in the newspaper with the basics of much of the national and local politics. We have some political conversations at work but tend not to since it can be a bit contentious. I've made the occasional post/rant on LJ too.

4. When is the last time you asked for forgiveness?
Can't remember. I haven't done too much that needed it, unless accidentally.

5. Friday fill-in:
I’m holding out for ___.
A hero! (Sir Gramster will do nicely!)

While I agree with you about frivolous lawsuits there is a bit more to the McDonalds coffee case then you may realize.

Oh that's very interesting. Surprising that they would have served their coffee that that high a temp. Also interesting to see all the excuses McD's gave during the case while their own research showed differently (i.e. "oh people buy it on the way to work intending to consume it at work" while research shows most people buy it and drink it straight away). Also interesting that the punitive damages were dropped after the local McD's dropped the temp *after* the verdict and that sucks too, because it should not have affected the damages. I bet the secret settlement was more than the dropped figure. I know that some coffee shops use water to make a cup of tea that comes out of a steamer or something and it's very very hot. It still comes down to being careful handling hot liquids no matter what though doesn't it.

Yes, it does. "Buyer beware" or at least careful.
