After wibbling this morning about where to go, have had inspiration. The bit about "maybe will go somewhere new" got me thinking. I went to the British Tourism site and clicked on the South of England for places to visit and what leapt off the screen but Bath. Ohhhhh! Yes! I was in Bath briefly on a coach tour in 1993, enough for a drive around the city, a brief walking tour and an hour or two to explore. Not enough time and it is always a city i thought i'd like to return and see again. As it's so handy to Cardiff, and as i think i'll be in Cardiff for a few days, i decided i will go to Bath on the Wednesday morning, and leave for London from there on Friday morning. Websites have revealed more than enough things to keep me busy for two days including Assembly rooms, Costume museum, Number 1 Royal crescent, Sally Lunn's house and tea room, the Abbey, a book museum, and the bridge with all the little shops on it. I didn't bother to go see the baths back when, and i don't imagine i will now. There's a Jane Austen thingo too i may try to see if i have time. One of my favourite movies is Persuasion (Ciaran Hinds..MMMMM) and i just saw it this weekend again. Yes i should "come to Bath".

Now that you mention it, I have heard very good things about Bath.

Also, if when you're in Scotland you might want to check out Edinburgh if you haven't been before.

(I was going to comment this on your other post but LJ is being a pain today.)

Also, Easter Sunday - pub - fine by me.

Have been to Edinburgh a couple of times and Glasgow once. Love both. Chris has been to both as well so i guess we'll see which we feel like at the time. Yay on the pub :) I figured it was a good central place at least to meet up. I don't know who all else or how many are joining me but we can go on someplace in the covent garden area to eat after or not. I'll have to get up early Monday to get the airbus and people do have to work so no late night i think.

Maybe at least have a cuppa in the Pump Room? They had lovely music when I was there in April 2000. Costume museum is wonderful, Jane Austen Museum more interesting to fanatics (I liked it but fear it might be dull for others). Pultney Bridge is neat and so is walking around the beautiful cresent streets. I can recommend a B&B.

Yes i'll be on my own, was hoping to keep the budget to under 50 quid per night. Was looking at a hotel right across from the rail station. If i get a room at the back, shouldn't be too bad.

Nods vigorously. Bath is good. Seconds Pump Room suggestion- you can have tea/coffee etc to sound of a Palm Court ensemble, and look down on the main bathes without taking full archeological tour.
Costume museum, and wandering amid the architecture are wonderful.

Yes i was told that this morning, far cheaper than taking the tour. Can see the baths out the windows for the price of a cuppa and a scone. May do that. May not. I love love love architecture.

Bath is much fun to visit - the costume museum is my personal favourite, and then the Baths [I like the Roman part more than the pump room, personally, but the pump room is grand, and its a gorgious place to just walk around in.
