Louisbourg is a replica of the 18th century Fortress/walled town that was founded by the French but fought over and changed hands several times with the British who finally won it over and destroyed it. The fortress is set in 1744 when it was still French. There are faithful replicas of the buildings and lots of antiques. There are costumed staff that act as actual inhabitants and can tell you about the people that they represent. The soldiers perform drills and public punishments for the tourists and there are other events that take place through the summer. There are a couple of restaurants, one being a working class one where you sit at long tables and you get one spoon and a big napkin to tie around your neck. The dishes are pewter. The prices are a bit high with small portions but it's still fun to do it. The other restaurant didn't seem to be open and there's a small takeaway coffee shop as well. We spent four hours tramping around looking in the buildings and chatting to the costumed staff. Well worth it if you're up in Cape Breton.

Joe's Scarecrow Village. If clowns or scarecrows creep you out, you might want to avoid that one. There are a couple of them that do freak me out a bit but it was just one of those bizarre things we had to stop and see.

We had stunning weather considering how ick it's been all summer! The Scarecrows were really something to see. No entry fee, either, just donation.
