I have been sprung from hospital today and quite glad to get home and sleeping in a normal bed. Not to mention getting my hot little hands on my laptop again! The phone is fine for a short while but things are all different and i'm used to my web pages looking and behaving a certain way, you know? Mom and my cousin Cath picked me up about 11 this morning and after dropping a prescription off, i got home just as the rain started bucketing down! My neice brought me some Starbucks tea and we all had a nice visit. I have now had a proper shower and WASHED MY HAIR! Gah! that was the worst part of it really. Well no, i suppose not but my hair was driving me crazy. I've now put my feet up and and propped up on the bed and relaxing while i let it dry and catching up on the stuff i didn't while "inside". I have kept up to speed on facebook and was able to communicate but there's a lot of little bits and pieces that need catching up on too. I can do that over the weekend.

I have a 'call bell' in case i need my mom while i'm in the bedroom but it's not what you would expect. One of my friends gave me a small sock monkey and when you strike it on the wall or a surface it blasts out the Tarzan yell!!!! Awesome! Much better than a regular bell, right? I've made the appointment to get the staples out on Thursday which will be a relief, too.

it will be nice to be in a quiet room to sleep as well. I had two roomies. One of them was quiet but she'd have to operate the bed lifts to get out and then call for a nurse to help her get back in so that would wake me up. The other was a woman who was in a lot of pain, i think, and often called for her top up meds which she could have as often as once an hour. Plus she would have cough medicine and she would often wheeze or sound congested breathing. She also had the television on 24 hours a day, though usually fairly low. If was sleeping i wouldn't hear it but if i was awake i could or i could hear her click through all the channels incessantly at times when she was trying to find what she might want to watch and you know most tv is pretty dire so there wasn't much. Sometimes she'd land on a children's cartoon in the mornings and leave it there, just for the sound and noise i would presume. It probably was more intelligent than some of the daytime programming to tell you the truth.

Anyway, i would imagine the next week or three will be fairly low key and once the staples are out, i'm sure i'll be a bit more comfortable as the soreness slowly eases.

Glad to hear you are out! I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly. Yes, it will feel better once the staples are out (have had three laparotomies myself!) and less "irritating" in that area too.

One of the things I hate the very most about shared hospital rooms is the TV being on or music being played. ARGHHH. I have gone quietly insane in the past from that.

Great idea with the sock money!!

Most of the time the other person's telly wasn't that loud but the 24 hour a day bit was annoying. She was alseep half of it or more!

The only issue with the incision, maybe even when the staples are out is that it might still hurt when up and around a bit because my big belly does have gravity to pull at it and wobble it when i walk and that seems to make it sore. It will improve and i think i can get a "sling" to support it too.

Even really quiet and it drives me batty! It's just "non-natural" sounds I think. I even prefer talking.

Yes, you can get support belts and so on which could help. Depending on how you feel about the incision, there's a silicon "patch" treatment you wear at least 12 hours a day over it which can apparently make it heal nicer. I always knew I was going to get chopped open again so I never tried it!

My chiropractor does a cold laser treatment that is supposed to help scars heal faster and smoother. I may give that a go once the staples are out and it is well on its way.

Sounds interesting! I've not heard of that - I shall have to look into it myself :-)

Thank you! I'm sure at times it will feel like two steps forward and one back but it'll all be in the right direction
