I've been going to a chiropractor for lower back and neck problems for four months. Things seemed to be coming along nicely and i was feeling pretty good until this weekend. I had massage therapy on Thursday after work and i'm usually a bit stiff and sore after that but it goes away. This time, by Saturday my lower back was sore again and i'm really discouraged. I really hoped i wouldn't have to put up with this again at least not so soon. Have been taking stuff for it and using ice packs and it's improving unless that's just the muscle relaxers and tylenol. It wasn't *really* bad but bad enough for me to stay put and rest all weekend. It's really got me down though. I'll have to go see the chiro tomorrow maybe even though i have an appt. on Wednesday morning. If it feels relatively ok tomorrow i may not. Just when i thought i had a handle on this too :((((

So sorry to hear this-I know just how depressing it can be to have setbacks, not know when/if it will get better, and not be able to escape it for a moment. Howeveer, if, as I get the impression, this is basically muscular, and no sructural problems have been diagnosed with your spine, it sounds as if you could benefit from the kind of exact and sustained stretching my physio has taught me; its counter-intuitive but it does produce both immediate relief and long-term improvement. It is used by post-op people like me and allsorts of otheres including Prince Charles and the England rowing team. Will tell you more if you're interested.
Also when you feel better, certain bits of yoga are good, and provide little movements you can fit into your day, if you have to sit at a screen, drive long distances or whatever.
Have you thought that sitting in the cinema, possibly on top of a day at work might have been the trigger?
Anyway good luck with chiropractor- what is his/her verdict?

Yes it is muscular along with some realignment problems in the hips which he's been working on. And Friday was my day off so i wasn't working all day and then to the film though i have done that before with no ill effects. I think it was that my back was a bit tetchy after the massage therapy the evening before and then the uncomfy chair at the movie theatre likely added to it. The chiro was able to fit me in this morning. I was still tight in the back but not nearly as uncomfortable as it was. He poked and prodded and pushed and it did help. I was supposed to see him Wed. which i will still do anyway.

I've never been an active person and i know i need to get back to walking more than i have been. I'm also a champion procrastinator :( Stretching exercises would probalby be a good idea. I had physiotherapy for awhile about 10 years ago but of course discontinued doing those exercises. I think stretching might be more enjoyable. would like to hear any suggestions. If you want to email me off the journal it's tvor @ accesswave . ca (take away the spaces of course) and I'm Diane :) so you'll know when you get an email back who it is.

Glad your symptoms have retreated/been beaten back-will certainly tell you about stretching when I have a bit more time in a day or two.
Heard horrible tale of aqua this morning from Mum whose sixteen year old son, formerly sporty and fit has three calcifying discs in different parts of the spine, has been off school having home tuition for GCSE's for months, and getting told its partly psychological, as all teenagers want an excuse to lie in bed. Like I was told I was afraid of motherhood and was seeking excuses to get help with children...ANyway they won't operate till he's 50, and so he's stuck on painkillers waiting for therapy.
So count our blessings eh?

Cripes... Some doctors must have got their credentials from the home shopping network! How many ailments were initially "diagnosed" and i use the term loosely as "women's problems" and putting it down to women being overly emotional creatures in that horribly Victorian viewpoint.. oh it just really rubs me the wrong way. That poor boy must be in agony and they can't operate until he's 50???? I'd be seeking many other medical opinions!

Me, my back is aching less and my upper shoulder/chest is aching more and it's definitely a muscle thing, not a heart attack type pain. Feels like i've been bench pressing 500 pounds! I feel like my body is breaking down little by little! More muscle relaxers before bed tonight i think.
