Bette Davis Eyes
Aug. 3rd, 2003 05:54 pmNow Voyager... Bette Davis as the spinster auntie, the one dominated by the controlling old matriarch of a mother. Bette Davis growing beautiful and confident, like a tentative butterfly, standing up to her mother and running back to the "rest home" when her mother dies, feeling guilty. Taking a 12 year old "ugly duckling" under her wing, the child of her married lover, a man who cannot or will not divorce his wife.
In the end, not a happy ending, they come to an understanding where she will care for the child. He asks if she will also be happy. Then comes one of the classic movie ending lines...
"Don't let's ask for the moon... we have the stars."
*sigh* Does it get any better than this?
