Oh Yay...
I've bought four tickets for the upcoming Atlantic Film Festival.

Canada/Uk, director Deepa Mehta Republic of Love By the director of last year's hit Hollywood/Bollywood. This is also based on a Canadian book by Carol Shields. It's about a much married man falling for a woman with impossibly high expectations of a relationship, opposites do attract it seems.

UK, director Tim Fywell I Capture The Castle Yay, i did read the book recently and i think it would be a charming film. [livejournal.com profile] abishag saw it and thought it was ok. It's one of those books i think that if you were particularly charmed by it, you would hate to see it "ruined" by a movie production but i think it turned out ok if i remember correctly. It's about the family of a once famous writer living in a drafty old castle, down on their luck and struggling. It's from the point of view of the teenage daughter.

Canada, director Scott Smith Falling Angels, Here's a Press Release and one of the quotes is Critic's praise for Barbara Gowdy's novel Falling Angels: "..it's like Little Women on acid!" by Time Out magazine... er... right LOL But it looks interesting. Sounds like it would have been a good book too, must seek it out. Film stars Miranda Richardson and Callum Keith Rennie and is about three sisters living in their parents repressive house in 1969.

France, director Francios Ozon, Swimming Pool and i think i may have read this book. Charlotte Rampling stars as a British mystery writer taking a break in the south of France and her publisher's oversexed young French daughter arrives contrasting with her own primness and reserve.

There was a series of short films i thought might be interesting and i did see a few others but i think four in one week is plenty LOL I'll have square eyeballs by the end of it. Nothing quite as depressing this year as Spider was last year though Spider was fascinating just the same. Well Tracey and I thought it was good, if very dark. Most of the ones i've picked for this year aren't light and airy either except for Castle but hopefully should be absorbing enough.
