I officially have arthritis in my lower back, left side. Talked to the chiro this morning and he showed me the xray images. The hospital gives them to him on a cd now and they can look at them right on the lap top, change colour, darkness, size... quite cool. i have a bit of a curvature to the left as well. There's one particularly icky spot lower left with a big clump of arthritis which, he said, is too late to really do much about and one other spot a little above that which isn't too bad yet. Obviously with arthritis they can't cure it but there are things that can make it manageable. It means i will have attacks periodically but as long as they dont get too bad or start pinching nerves then nothing radical like surgery needs to happen. don't want to do that anyway, back surgery is too risky.

So with regular chiro adjustments, and he says there are some manipulations and exercises i can do at home, and take glucosamine sulfate that helps mobility as well, hopefully the attacks can be kept fairly far apart. It's not good news but it's nothing i didn't expect to hear either. My back will never be 100% now and i will always be more susceptible to pain and attacks but i guess it's just something i have to work around whenever possible.

It's part of the reason yes. Inflammation from arthritis is what can cause nerves to pinch or muscles to spasm. My hips are out of line which causes it as well as a slight curvature in the spine. Being out of line unchecked all these years is likely one of the major causes of the arthritis.

I just started taking that glucosamine stuff in Oct. A lot of folks I know swear by it so I figured it couldn't do any harm, which, now that I think of it, is probably not true LOL.

Good luck with your back.

Thanks. Apparently i need to take it for a few months before i will really see any difference. I had tried it before and didn't last more than a couple or three weeks not realizing that.

OOhh good luck with it. I too have a bad back but it's been assumed to be postural in connection with my height and the fact that I have hyperflexible joints. I've read that you can also help a lot of arthritis with eating certain foods - have you thought about looking into that at all?

haven't yet but i will look into it. I'm curerntly trying to increase my calcium intake since i really didn't take much in before. That will surely help something.

At least you know what it is.. and can move on to a "solution" of sorts...

Yes as far as the back goes. I knew a couple of years ago that there was a beginning of arthritis. I don't think it could have got this bad in only 2 years so probably that Quack i had before only went by the report and didn't bother to look at the xray itself.
