In between a couple of the towers i can see one big-ass American flag flapping down on the waterfront and it appears to be attached to a tall mast. Conclusion: A. Tall ship in port and most likely the The US Coast Guard training vessel the Eagle. It usually makes a visit every summer and usually, i seem to recall, flies a very large flag. It always seems a bit disconcerting to see such a large flag from another country flying bravely and so conspicuously. Canadian flags around town are smaller with the largest ones i've seen flying by one of the bigger supermarkets! I think we have a fairly large Canadian one flying on the waterfront now, i remember seeing it from the ferry a month or so ago when i took it across to one of our other offices.

I love the tall ships, we had dozens here in Halifax 2 summers ago. The waterfront was thick with them and over a hundred thousand people a day they say came down to view them. The Parade of Sail on the day they left was jaw dropping. http://members.accesswave.ca/~tvor/tallships.htm has loads of photos from the waterfront and the Parade of Sail, to give you an idea of what it was like here those few hot July days 2 years ago.
