tvordlj: (hand on head)
Date: Saturday July 10

Since i only have a few days, I'd like to have a general meet and greet where anyone i know including LJ folk can come and have a drink with me. Sort of an "Open House" if you will. So this is the date, July 10 so you'll have enough notice. [livejournal.com profile] naturalbornkaos (can you point a link to this poll on your journal too as i'm sure there are a few others on yours that aren't on mine) said i should sort out a poll and he reckons a Wetherspoons pub would be a good place to start, at least. Saturday is better as people don't have to worry about working the next day most of you. So, Do you have any suggestions as to pubs? I thought somewhere in central London if people are coming from various directions. The only pubs i know are: Lord Moon on the Mall (Whitehall, large, Saturday may be very crowded?), Chandos which is across trafalgar Square, near National Portrait Gallery, And this little pub on Euston Street, a short stagger from the side entrance to Euston rail station, called the Happy Gardener or something like that.

Therefore, suggestions please. Look forward to meeting.

Had a look in Radio Shack for a plug converter. I saw this same one in another store on the weekend but i didn't think i could use it. Had another look today and played with it a bit more and it looks like i will be able to use it so that i can plug in the UK phone charger into my outlet to charge up the phone. It has the conversion to other electrical socket configurations non-North America but it also can go the other way so that's exactly what i need. It's not a voltage converter, but the charger has dual voltage in it so i'm ok there. It looks like a charger itself, a black "box" so it's a bit bulky to take over as a general use plug converter for my travel sized dual voltage hair dryer. That's ok though, because i have a smaller plug converter for UK outlets and of course the phone charger will be fine for while i'm over there and in Ireland. Will plug it in and try to charge the phone tonight to see if it blows up or not ;) According to the online manual, it seems like i should charge it for 14 hours, unhook the battery, plug it back in and charge it again, because it's not been in use for quite awhile. *shrug*

I was telling Buddy at Radio Shack about it and he made a weak attempt at informing me that they would provide a free phone with a contract. Yes i know. And if i took that free phone to the UK it would cost me about $2.00 a minute to use it on the foreign networks. Plus ridiculous roaming charges.

In other, somewhat more techie related front, i've been finding that i can't save a copy of pdf type files like user manuals or other documents on the web to my hard drive. I have them open in a separate Acrobat (6.0) Reader application window instead of right inside the browser. I know i used to be able to save a copy. Anyway. I discovered that if i opened the pdf file inside the browser i could then save a copy. All this after i printed some pertinent pages of the generic mobile phone manual that i found online over the weekend. I'm still not entirely sure i can figure out how to use the features of the phone that i will find handy but as long as i can dial, and answer, that will get me to Manchester and [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee can show me the rest seeing as it used to be his phone.
