tvordlj: (art palette)
Back and forth between doing jobs around the apartment (just washed the kitchen floor, bathoom needs a good bottoming next), the computer desk, the couch where my painting is set up. Watching a French movie on tv called Jet Lag. Jean Reno is in it with Juliette Binoche. I like them both.

Was working on a painting of a whitewashed cottage under a very stormy sky but it will have a rainbow beaming through it. It's from a postcard i have of Rannoch Moor in Scotland and by God i've even impressed myself. It's not finished but it went together really well though i was doubtful at first. I really need to step back and look at the paintings from more of a distance more often. What looks like shit up close while i'm doing it looks amazing from across the room which is the whole point i guess :) It needs a bit more detail and it will need the rainbow but i'm not sure how to do that so that it's "transparent". I suppose i just need to thin the colours out a lot. [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee? [livejournal.com profile] blueberrymoon? Any other artists out there ? hints?

I have a few other small ones i may do as well, i put in some background solid colour for one that i will then add shading to in order to make big broad leaves around two pumpkins (thanks for the photo, Ang). It should really be darker though. When this dries i'll add another layer darker i think. I really should get some more paints, with some better colours. Mixing what i have usually works but sometimes i think what i need is a tube of, say, a green that's exactly what i already need without mixing it. Then if i need more, i won't have to worry about mixing it to match again.

Right. back to the er... drawing board?
