Oct. 23rd, 2004 04:49 pmOff on the bus at 10 this morning and got to Aerobics First at 11:30 after a stop at Perks on Quinnpool for a tea and bun. It was overcast and coooooold this morning and i was sure i was going to get caught in the rain. Met up with the shoe guy, Luke at the shop and he spent about an hour with me fitting, measuring, trying out shoes with various insoles, with and without my orthotics. We came out with a pair of sneakers (trainers) by Brooks that were actually a mens' size 8.5 that were nearly identical to the womens' 10 though a bit stiffer which will be better for my foot anyway. Best thing was that the mens' shoe was on sale and came to 100 dollars taxes in where the women's shoe was $125 before taxes. Lucked out there. I am supposed to wear them only for a short while every day working up to a full time wear. They feel good even with the orthotics in so i don't have to get used to the shoe without them first like he thought. He also asked if he could take pictures of my feet because the shape of them, with a nearly flat arch, bunion and other ...er... challenges were excellent for him to use to train others. He has mostly always been in the shoe industry but currenlty works for HRM with the Community Projects staff on various aspects so it's really handy. If we need to consult on anything, he's in the same building complex. He still does this on the side, going around a few different shoe stores, the kind that specialize in trainers and sport shoes like Aerobics First and the Running Room. Turns out as well, he knows my cousin Brian who was working for Addidas and now works for Reebok (out of Toronto now). I"m pleased with the price too, as i really figured i wouldn't pay under $100 and closer to $150 once the taxes were added on.
When i got out of there, the sun was trying to come out so it was a little warmer. Just missed two different busses by a minute each so i walked downtown to where i could get a bus to Dartmouth and picked up some groceries before taking a taxi home. Urgh.... spent about 80 on groceries, which i hadn't planned to but you know what it's like! I shall have things i can actually eat and cook for myself for a week or two anyway.
Wrangled with my new chair too and managed to get it all put together and it's not fallen apart under me yet so i think it'll be ok lol It's a lot nicer than my old one which i wheeled down into the parking garage and left by the rack where the recyclables go. Someone will take it i expect.
Washed the dishes, had lunch. Had the window open for awhile and now it's cold in here again. Brrr... must go get a sweatshirt on. Should do some painting tomorrow. I have flowers that need blossoming on one canvas and leaves that need painting on another one or two.
