So far, today is a better day than yesterday.

In the newspaper, they have been publishing a "Word of the Day" courtesy of CanSpell complete with pronunciation guide. Today's is: "Riot Act" "RYE-ut-ACT". I suppose for non-English speakers, it would be useful but otherwise for two short words like that, it seems a bit much. I know, it's just the standard template they use for the feature but it had me snickering this morning.

Headline criticizing the province because Nova Scotia university tuitions are among the highest in the country "Premier called 'pirate of the high fees'"

There's been a few near-abductions of children off the side of the road in a nearby community here over the last couple of years. One a few days ago where the 9 year old struggled to get away and was hit in the face with something. It's pretty frightening but the "doh" of the article... the mom of this boy doesn't want her name or her son's name published. Fair enough. But she allowed her photo to be in the paper. *shakes head* The police are looking for a man described as (height and clothing description) and a black ski mask over his face. Yes, i see men with ski masks on all over the place. I don't know if the reporter actually reads what he writes to see if it makes sense or not. I'd have written it including the mask in the clothing descriptions, not that the police were looking for a man wearing a mask.

Some people in Ontario are pushing for a law that bans smoking in vehicles if children were present but the Premier decided it was a slippery slope to infringement on people's rights. We'll see if Big Brother prevails in the long run.

Tomorrow night in Halifax, there will be an attempt to break the world's largest pub crawl record currently held by the Aussies with over 2700 people. The organizers here have sold 3200 tickets on the first day so it seems to be set for a record buster. it's going to be held downtown tomorrow night so anyone that's not participating, stay well away! It's going to be a zoo! They're splitting the crowd into 19 groups that have various staggered start times and 5 places each group selected from 26 venues so as not to overload the bars. Text messages will serve as the "time" signal to go to the next venu. 100 or 200 in each group? Madness, i tell you! ;)
