tvordlj: (Sheep UK)
so it's day 2. Day 1 was a bit of a blur really. The flight was fine but it was late leaving Halifax and about 20 minutes late into Heathrow. Not good when you've got a bit of a tight connection. It took the usual time to get off the plane and hike to the transfer point and get into Terminal 1. Got in the wrong lineup at passport which wasted time. Ran over to the right one and muttered about not making my connection so the few people in front of me let me go ahead. Passport guy asked questions. And more. as they do. right, out of there, get my Iris (eye) SCAN. round the corner and down a hall to security and have to get through all that again. THEN the woman decided she wanted to look at everything in my purse. Agggghhh! Maybe because i was out of breath and sweating and looking anxious. I have 10 minutes to get all the way down the other end of T1 to the gates for the time on my boarding pass for boarding though i know the plane doesn't leave for another 30 after that. Still...

So then... there's another stop off to check the boardig pass and i'm trying to get through the area with the shops but i have to stop and catch my breath and realize i'm going to have an emergency toilet stop or i will wee in my pants. Around the corner i wiggle, and phew made it, there goes another couple of minutes. I get to the gates and it's 10 minutes past the boarding call and it's gate 8. But there's 5 of them. 8a, 8b, 8c. etc. 8c is signed by a set of double doors. Not a proper check in gate. Huh? I asked someone and he had to go check, yep it's through those doors but they haven't started boarding yet. oh Travel Gods Thank you. there's a group of people sitting opposite and i stood over there and the doors opened very shortly after. The desk was down a ramp and tehn you go outside and onto the little plane from the tarmac.

So i got to Manchester on time as planned and my luggage arrived with me. Another one for the Travel and luggage Gods. Thank you!

We got to the train station, had to walk because the little shuttle bus apparently was off. I'm so tired! Got the train into Manchester and went round the corner to the address where the rental car company is. Or was. It was all boarded up!!! Wha???/

All righty. Call the number on the building to find out where the new location is and it's back around the trainstation and up another block. Jesus!

Finally got the car, and we decided to splurge on a GPS because of all the driving we'llb e doing next week. Phew. Got home to Graham's flat and nearly collapsed! Tea! sandwich!

Today we drove down to Birminham to see some friends and the drive down was vile, with rain and all that spray flying about on the highway behind the cars and big trucks but the drive back was fine. Got a few groceries for something for our supper and some sandwiches for on the road |Monday and the sausage and mash is about ready so i'm off to have that and watch Doctor Who!
