Mar. 11th, 2016 12:15 pmNot a lot to report for the week. G. has been battling a miserable cold, which is bad timing since he's facing a lot to do. I made some suggestions because I think he's getting a bit overwhelmed. He still has to go through stuff to find what he wants to bring but instead of posting it, I think he should box it all up and instead of just shipping the two guitars, ship the lot. Lots of forms to fill out for customs but that's doable. It is very expensive to post heavy boxes and getting them to the post office is going to be a nuisance, even with a hire car that we'll have. Might as well send it all in one lot and be done with it. Then we can pick it up at the airport here in my mom's car.
The rest of the stuff, once his two friends take what they're planning to have, ... rather than trying to get a skip/dumpster and then having to schlep it down the stairs, I suggested calling one of those house clearance places and paying someone to take it all or most of it away. Sod the expense. I think it would take a lot of pressure off. Let them deal with fighting it down the steps. Most of his stuff isn't really worth a lot and the things that are worth something, his friend is going to sell them on eBay for him. As pricey as sending things through the post is, it's more expensive here than in the UK believe it or not. It cost me $20 to send a magazine from here to the UK last year.
Anyway, the last few things that have to stay, the bed and a couple of chairs, that can either stay in the flat or we can put it outside for someone to take. His downstairs neighbour is taking the computer and television and some kitchen stuff.
Tonight I'm going to Paint Night, a new thing that's been growing in popularity in Canada over the past year or so. It's made it's way to Halifax and my niece and I are going tonight. A group of people gather at a local watering hole and a local artist guides them painting a picture, all doing the same one. You can buy yourself drinks while you paint and it's a social thing. Our painting will be the Eiffel Tower. I'm really looking forward to it. The venu/ticket covers all the supplies though of course you buy your own drinks.
