May. 24th, 2016 11:40 amFrom today, the day after Victoria Day (holiday Monday in Canada), we can officially wear white shoes. Not that I would or do. You can wear white between the May holiday and Labour Day in September apparently. My sister's office is now on "summer casual" for their dress code, meaning they can now wear open toed shoes and capri pants. That boggles. No open toed shoes/sandals before this date? Mind you, most days up to now would have been too cold for it anyway but we have had a few really nice and warm days in the past few weeks.
Summer just might be on the way. We've finally got spring. The leaves are halfway out on many of the trees. Flowering trees are in bloom. The sun isn't out every day but the morning temp was up into double digits this morning. I think that's progress even if the 7 day forecast shows 4 days that have rain or showers. The high temp is forecast to be in the double digits, at least. G. now understands that while UK weather is changeable, it's got nothing on ours here by the ocean in Canada.
So what did we do for the long weekend? headed to the farmers' market on Saturday morning. Lots of interesting things. Picked up some pastries to take to dinner for last night. Also got some sausages, a turnip and taste tested blueberry wine, red wine and a coffee flavoured "moonshine" which is really just a sort of whiskey that's not aged the minimum 3 years it has to in order to be called whiskey. That vendor also had some flavoured vodkas that were corn based, not potato. The coffee one was interesting and they also had an apple pie flavoured one. Dangerous, if you ask me! The blueberry wine was very tart. Tasting it on its own probably doesn't do it justice. I think it would be ok if you were eating as well. The girl selling it suggested cheese. She also admitted she wasn't all that keen on it, preferring their regular red instead which G. and I both liked. Didn't get any though thought about it. We had a coffee sitting out in the sun before heading back towards home via the shopping center by the bus terminal (dollar store, drug store, grocery store) and a quick lunch at Wendy's.
We caught up on a lot of television that we'd recorded as well. I had been waiting for him to catch up on Orphan Black before starting to watch the new season but he reckons he won't get round to it and didn't want to hold me back so I started on that. Love that series! We signed up for CraveTV last week and finally got a chance to dip into it. We are trying an older HBO series called Carnevale. I tried to watch it years ago but it didn't catch me but now since I have been watching things like Orphan Black and Penny Dreadful, I thought I might like it better. We did get three episodes into it and are sticking with it for now. We tried something called Salem but gave up on that one. We've also go the BluRay box set of Twin Peaks that is calling our name. Still loving Game of Thrones and Penny Dreadful. G. started another new series, Preacher and said he liked it so far.
Monday we went to a friend's house for dinner along with my sister and brother-in-law and had a great feast! Our friend has just split up with her husband after 28 years and I think she's at a bit of a loose end though did just come back from a lovely holiday in Italy with her daughter.
This weekend coming we're invited to a barbeque on Saturday. Must find out if i can bring something.
