Back in the glory days of IRC, our Corrie chat room was busy all the time. Mostly Canadians, we were still an international group and I've met lovely people from lots of places outside Canada. But there is one woman who lived in Kingston, Ontario that went out of her way to organize a special kind of ping, a Corrie get together for online friends. She owned a sailboat, as did her brother and she had boaty friends. She organized a summer sailing ping and lots of people would come for the weekend, stay overnight, go out sailing and then enjoy the company in one of the local pubs. I went one year, 2001, and we had a great time. She was never a particular friend of mine but she was one of the gang and was always a lovely and friendly lady. We lost touch over the years after the chat room faded though I know some of the Ontarians kept in touch through facebook.

You probably can tell where this is going.

Last night on Facebook I saw a few posts, shares about a woman that had gone missing. She left work last week on Wednesday or Thursday, I think and was expected in on Monday and didn't show up. There was a search ongoing. First they said her motorbike was also missing but subsequent news had said that the bike was found in a repair shop. Still no word on her whereabouts and everyone was worried. Within the next hour the news came, and wasn't good. She was found dead. There weren't a lot of details but it sounded like she was found on her rural property, though perhaps not in her house, I'm not sure. They did say it wasn't foul play so that indicates one of two outcomes. Suicide or a health catastrophe like heart attack or stroke or aneurism. I'd much rather it be the latter because it's twice as hard to know that someone decided they couldn't live any longer. She was 52. They are doing an autopsy today. Since I have lost touch, I have no idea what her life had been like but by some accounts she'd been involved in local community things and was described as 'vibrant' so it sounds like she's been living a good life. I know she has a daughter who must be in her 20s now. She was divorced some years ago and it was her brother that posted a note to say she'd been found.

My old corrie online friends are all shocked and saddened. One person said "Happy sailing, Sue". I concur.
