Thai food... Well we couldn't find the restaurant on Blowers Street that we thought was there so we walked a few blocks further to Baan Thai in the courtyard off Dresden Road. Restaurant was nice enough, prints and brass and wood ornaments around the room. Quite a variety on the menu but i found the prices very steep. Are all Thai restaurants that pricey or was it just because it's in a posh area of the city?

My friend didn't want too much heat and spice so no curries this time around. She might have been ok to try a few bites but when you're sharing the dishes she wouldn't get much out of it. Anyway we shared fish cakes and spring rolls to start. The Fish cakes or else the sauce did have a bit of heat, just enough to make it interesting. The hot and sour soup was hot, but not sour i didn't find. Hot! BeJesus! not temperature hot though and it could have been a bit more for my taste but the powerful tiny bits of chilis in it certainly made up for that! Whoah! Not unbearable for me but it did make your mouth stand up and take notice! The soup was quite gingery and had tomato pieces in it and other nice things.

We ordered two dishes, one with "glass" noodles and chicken and the other a ginger port concoction. Both were not hot-spicy at all and were delicious over the steamed rice. It was a nice meal and very tasty. The restaurant is very popular though, it was packed out and filled up shortly after it opened. I did find it noisy as a result.

So today, i have a lot of laundry to do and dishes to do. I do need some groceries and i wanted to get to the gym but maybe i'll do the gym tomorrow as my back is a bit achy today.

What do you consider steep? I think on average here you'd expect to pay between $10-$15 for each dish at a regular sit down restaurant. We have some really cheap places in the city where you'd get some take out for lunch and you can do about $7/dish. The place you went could have just been more upscale due to the neighbourhood.

I don't find That curries that spicy though...I love the cocount milk that they use in those dishes.

That is steep, 10-15 for a dish of Thai food that could probably contribute to three people sharing several dishes. Chinese food is about half that usually in most of the places i usually go. The Chinese place we went to in London would have translated to that price but that's London :) I'm sure some of it was the neighbourhood but i've no prior experience with Thai food to compare with. It *was* good though.

Generally what happens with us is that we go as a small group, we all order a different dish and maybe an extra one & just all split it.

Yes that's what we did too, an appetizer, soup, two dishes and rice and a half litre of wine and the bill was 100 bucks! eeek! Ah well, still a nice evening out.
