Having a ball

Volleyball that is. The annual HRM inter-departmental employee volleyball tournament was tonight. You get teams from 16 - 20 departments, with varying levels of ability from people who have to be fit for a living like the firemen and the recreation department to regular desk jockeys and truck drivers. Our department had two teams in and i usually go and keep score on one of the four courts. This year i got to do the court where one of our teams was playing *and* where the fire team was playing and later, the other IT team played on a consolation round. It's fun to watch. I used to play volleyball a bit, on and off and i have played for the department team as well but i'm not in any shape to do it now and i'm nervous a sudden stop or twist will do my back in so i go and keep score and watch.
I took my camera too so got some good shots. Even though it was pretty bright, the digital doesn't have a fast shutter speed setting for no-flash which sometimes makes interesting movement shots but i only took a couple of those. Mostly i used the flash but the subjects were still a bit far away for it under fluorescent lights. I still don't think digital can beat my trusty old slr. I'll have to print a couple of the team pictures and one or two other jokey pics which will go over well with the gang. Apparently a few of them bet the general manager that if they won he would shave his head. They didn't but they posed for a pic with the trophe in order to make him think that they did. Also at the social afterwards they talked to the winning team and the presenters and said they had talked them into going along with the joke. I left before the awards were handed out so i don't know the end of that story.
The other funny situation was one of our teams made up tshirts. They called themselves "Your Team Sucks" and got hold of a picture of the CAO pointing and put that on it too. I think they made him a tshirt too. He's generally got a pretty good sense of humour. I hope LOL At the end of the event, one of the lads scratched the Y off his shirt so it read "Our team sucks" lol
Stopped in to the pub/pool hall after for free pizza and a couple of drinks but my neck was stiff and i was tired so i came home.
