Boy was it ever foggy this morning and it hung around. Why do i bother listening to the weather forecast? They said it was going to burn off but it never really did. At least i didn't get rained on though. The fog was heavy almost a mist at times but not until i got inside again. Boogee Woogee music in the coffee shop this morning. Jump start the heart and put a spring in my step :)

It seems the new landlords are going to revamp the intercom system in the building and wiring it into our telephone lines. I don't know what you'd do if you didn't have a landline and only a mobile but most people here have both anyway. I had to fill out a form and take it to the super's apartment so while i was there, i filled out another form for a work order for someone to fix my kitchen light. I asked that they let me know the day before because i have a deadbolt in addition to the door lock and if they don't tell me, they can't get in. We'll see. They'll either fix the light or replace it i suppose. While down on the second floor, i see that the new hallway carpet is being installed there. It's a sandy brown with some sort of geometric design in it that makes me dizzy if i look down at it while i walk lol but it matches the new paint job and with new brigher light fixtures in the hallways it's not so dark. Our floor is still bare planks at the moment.

Looks like they are gearing up to renovate our office too. Still in the planning stages yet, and asking for feedback from us as to what kind of space we need. One thing i want is walls. Or at least partial walls. We used to have them but after the last renovation, they made us share a workspace between two people along with the rest of our desk (i.e. a three sided work "cell" but one side is shared). When we had little partitions, there was at least a little bit of privacy. Most of us want that back. I also thought an electrical outlet at the desktop level would be useful instead of crawling under the desk if you have to plug anything in besides the computer. I suppose the renovations will take place in the fall by the time they've got feedback and plans drawn up.

I belong to a mailing list for travelers. It's a great travel resource and has members from all over the world. There are some rules involved in belonging which are a bit of a pain but the information you can get is well worth it. Anyway, quite often there are get togethers organized when list members are in the same place at the same time. One of the listmembers is coming to Halifax in August and there are a couple others from the list who live here. I've met the other gal once or twice. The man that's coming is from Italy. I don't know what the other girl is planning to do, because she's not replied to his email that i've seen but i said i'd meet him maybe for lunch or something. I don't know if he's got a partner with him or not, he hasn't said. But hey, lunch is always nice and maybe a walk on the waterfront. The Busker festival should be on then too. It's always nice to have a contact in a place where you've never been before because then you can get a local's point of view and a little company if you're traveling alone.

I did that once in New York City. I used to trade postcards with a man who lived there and worked, along with his wife, in one of the big department stores on Fifth Avenue. I was on course in New Jersey and took the bus into the city on a Saturday and met them for lunch and we walked around for an hour or two after. It was nice to have that contact. Of course through the online Corrie community i've made lots of contacts in other cities when i've traveled on business or while visiting relatives so i've managed to attend get togethers from Newfoundland to Victoria (coast to coast in Canada) and a couple of places in the UK :)

Anyway i'm in danger of going off on a tangent so i better quit while you're head. :D

We've have our "intercom" set up to our phone. It was that way when we lived here back in 1999 as well. Quite simple really...they just punch in your code at the main door and it rings your phone...you then press 9 to let them in...alternatively if you aren't home and you have an answering machine they can leave you a message to let you know they were by :)

Yes in deed cause it is ringing your phone until either you answer in person or your answering machine/voice mail picks up or the person ends the call in the lobby. Also if they don't leave a message you can still see someone was there if you have call display cause the lobby number will come up on your call display.

That mailing list sounds interesting
I agree, having contacts in different places and areas is always *useful*

If I had a better *home* I would try to belong to one of those house swap lists, where you can exchange houses with someone else on that list when you go on vacation...
but then the whole security issue with that...

I don't think i would feel comfortable with a house swap. The Travel list info is Here. There are posting rules and guidelines and sometimes the owners come across a bit bossy but the information is well worth it.

We're buying the folks two tickets on a cruise to Alaska for their 50th next August. We've been saving (all 5 of us girls) for the past 2 years. We're just starting to look around at what's out there now. Any suggestions on websites?

Cruising isn't my area unfortunately. I think if i was booking one, i'd go to a good travel agent and talk to them. I think a smaller ship is nicer because it can get inside some of the bays and inlets better.

You're probably right about ship size.

Well, it helps that there are 5 sibs paying $30 for the past 2 years and have a year to go.

Reminds me I should look for a website dealing with timeshares cause I want to get rid of mine.
