This and that.
Mar. 20th, 2003 06:26 pmI have no opinion that's worth saying that someone else hasn't all said before on .. you know what. I avoid the news on tv...i can't stand it. They repeat and repeat and sensationalize and speculate and if you were watching it all the time you would have ulcers and be carried away by the nice men in white suits. I get my facts from the newspaper. It's enough.
I've been spending my time faffing about with a travel website i've created at Virtualtourist.com where there are all kinds of real people tips and travelogues. It's not going to replace my main website where the detailed travelogues are but i will post excerpts and summaries with a few photos and tips. This is me on virtualtourist. I find myself returning and adding stuff to my page as i think of it regularly. I can't way to go on my trip (2 WEEKS TONIGHT!) to add to it LOL!
Well i can't wait for my trip, full stop. :) Bought £100 today to get me started on the ground. The rate has been dropping in the last month thankfully. I bought today at $2.34. I called a couple of banks and that was the cheapest. It's amazing how much they add on to the rate. The internet says the rate is 2.32 tonight. So
My boss mentioned something today that they are assessing the Earned Day Off program and might cancel it. We are short staffed, he said, and it might be a luxury we can't afford. Well... We've always been short staffed but of course it's not a right, it's a priveledge at your supervisor's approval. It's not written in any union contract. I would really miss my every-other-friday-off but what can you do? I bet we see more sick days being taken ;) I think he was narked. The email he sent around said something about some people aren't getting their vacation pre-approved for things like taking one day off, just emailing that they will be off on such and such a day. I do know that he's never really liked the whole program but hasn't really put his foot down on it. I don't think anyone abuses it and there aren't very many people in our office that do it. But i think he'd just rather everyone be there every day. I suppose it's fair enough. We're certainly busy enough for it. Can't say too much if he ends up putting a stop to it. Oh well.
The project i'm on at work is going well. I've got the data model done, the scripts to create the data tables basically in shape, the conceptual design pretty much ready unless they want it tweaking. Will have to figure out the outline of the design (how many screens/reports/menus) before i go and start roughing out the program specifications.
