Wedding things seemed to take a jump yesterday, I now have appointments to meet people in three of the venues I was looking at, all hotels at this point and I may make another one for a space at one of the universities. They have a beautiful old stone building with a "great hall" that is really nice for weddings as well. One place i contacted won't be suitable as they don't have a large enough space and my cousin who works at another hotel called me back as well but I have a feeling her place won't have the accommodations either. However, she works for a chain and there are two others in the city. I wonder if she would have influence there? She's very good at organizing and she'll have good ideas regardless.

I also got a referral for a photographer from someone at work and he emailed me back with a general price quote which will suit the budget nicely. Gosh though, wedding photography isn't cheap! I know they put a lot of work in and even if I don't have one for a whole day, they do a lot of work on the photos even after the wedding. Anyway, I like what I've seen on his website so I think we'll have to have a chat to see if I like him. No point hiring someone whose personality isn't going to gel with mine. I know another photographer, an old friend though not a close one. I should contact him and see what kind of price he can do for what I need.

.... and having done that, and just had a conversation with him, I'm probably going to go with him. The price is right and I know him already. Nice guy, good photographer. He's shot a few weddings of my friends so I know his work. Lots of experience, too.

I was horrified at the price of wedding photography for our wedding but having now seen it from the other side, I know I could have got more money working in McDonalds per hour! The issue (and it's one of the reasons I quit) is one of work done versus value to the customer. Photos are just that - photos - it's not like in the olden days when nobody had cameras. Now you're paying money for fancy photos - rather than paying to have photos at all. It's difficult to calculate the worth of having fancy photos over normal photos and that worth often falls short of the vast sum you have to pay to the photographer! Yet, as you say, the photographer earns that money. It's just the final product doesn't always feel quite worth it in terms of financial outlay. If that makes sense!!

Anyway, very glad you have found someone - recommendations and liking their style count for everything :-)

I do know the worth of the time they put into it, especially the post processing. Now they give you the digital files on a stick. He said a lot of the younger couples don't even get any of it printed these days. I am going to get him to do a proof album and we'll definitely get one or two enlargements but I might also have a proper album done or maybe upload to a website and do a photo book for his sister in law.
