Whinge... moan... too warm and humid....
But on the plus side, only two more weeks of work before I get to see my husband! It still feels odd using that term (but in a good way). I've taken the documentation to the consultant who said he thought he could get to it this weekend, the man has no life and admitted he's married to the job. I don't know how long he's going to be able to keep up the pace! I think he'll be able to get things together to send off the applications this week, or next if he's too backed up. Soon, anyway. Then the waiting begins for real.
Pulled out my suitcase to start chucking stuff in, like my wedding shoes, the guestbook, the thank you notes and the many charging and usb cords! Graham sent me a SIM card for my unlocked phone so i can hit the ground running. Just got to charge it. All these things that need charging and there's no point doing it until closer to the day i leave. Camera batteries, laptop, phone, the GPS can wait until I get there I suppose but I'll probably charge that too. I found my spare camera battery and I have the charger. The only thing I'm missing is the cord to attach the iPod to the sound system in a car. If the car has a usb then we're ok but I don't know until we pick up the rental. If i can't find it, I guess i'll have to buy another one just in case we need it. I'll have to charge up the iPod as well and check the play lists.
A few more books for the list...
2015 books
65. Thursday's Child - Monique Martin
Another in the series of time travel books about a couple that jump back in time to help people or sort out something that went wrong that shouldn't have. This book was pretty good. I have one more in a three book volume which I'll read, though not sure if I'll stick with the series. Too many other books to try out! I did like it, though, and it was quick and easy to read.
66. London Calling - James Craig
first in a series about Inspector John Carlysle, solving crimes in London. Carlysle is somewhat of an outsider and we jump back in time a couple of times to when he was a younger cop, showing the kinds of reasons why he seems to be alienated. The main mystery is someone killing a group of men that were part of an elite crowd in Cambridge in their university days. Quite good, actually. This too was fairly easy to read but didn't feel as cliche as some of the crime series sometimes are.
67. Punishment - Linden MacIntyre
Excellent book about an ex-prison guard who comes home to a small Cape breton village having taken early retirement. His involvement with a prisoner, a younger man who grew up in the same village under similar circumstances (both adopted) is the gist of the story. The younger man is now out of prison and charged with a murder of a young woman. The evidence is thin and he asks ex-guard Joe to support him though it goes against everyone else in the town. Some of Joe's past is described, some of his dealings with the prisoner and his own involvement in a scandal all take part in the plot. Really well written, good characters. It's not really a mystery, more of a character story.
