Aug. 17th, 2003 01:41 pmLine of the Day:
- Rita "Archie’s house wont’ be full of dead people, you know, he won’t have them propped up round the dining room table”
- Richard "I shouldn’t’ be here" Gail "Of course you should be, you’ve as much right as anybody"
- Richard "I confess..." (Bloody hell I thought he really was going to and all!)
Everyone involved has put in superb performances but Stephen Arnold needs to win every award there is! Fred breaking down briefly after the funeral probably did me in the most. Corrie does funerals better than anyone else! (*sob*)
Audrey doing Maxine’s hair and makeup had to be heartbreaking. I don’t see anything wrong with bringing the baby to the funeral home or the funeral. The child won’t remember and it helps Ashley having him there but the poor little thing must have been roasting in that sheepskin coat and hat in the church.
Poor David, a child’s natural curiosity gets him a smack upside the head and pushes Richard closer to pieces as did having to speak at the funeral. Can you imagine being at a funeral and having someone hurl accusations of murder across the grave – It’s horrifically bizarre! If he actually *had* confessed in church it would have brought the house down like a nuclear bomb! Even so, did you see Audrey’s face go from smug to horror to barely surprised anger without even an audible gasp? It’s no wonder she had to walk out. Say what you will, it could only happen on tv but by God, it’s GREAT tv!
Ken knows how everyone feels about him and his dealings with Aidan and I know he just wanted to help Ashley but trying to help on the doorstep of the crime scene showed particular lack of judgment. He sticks his nose in further by visiting Mr. Critchley though, to be fair, he should have done that from the get go and it looks like Aidan thinks he has interfered enough as well. But you know what Ken’s Crusades are like, they take over his life to the detriment of all else, reputation be damned. I suppose though, he does what he has to to sleep at night. I did have a chuckle at Deirdre’s sarcasm at the beginning of the show though.
Ashley’s house is not as it was…probably needs the carpet ripping up and a new sofa. Poor Bella looked pretty bedraggled, didn’t she? Norris scrambles for a place to stay and ends up with Les and Kirk. Emily’s right, it *does* beggar belief! Spider’s Back and wearing a tie!! (with a black cardi!) now I never particularly liked him, I found him often a bit too self involved but I always liked him with Emily. That’s something else too, Gail lost her husband to criminal violence as well as Emily. How could Norris even consider taking an “I told you so” stance with Emily to get his room back? That’s the surest way of being tossed out on his ear for good! I think it’s time Norris takes over the title of Gob Almighty, idle since Jackie Dobbs left and Fiz got to be nicer. I suppose he will have to share it with Karen and Janice though. I also noticed Stephen Arnold had a lower split lip.
Funny Betty told Maria about trying to get an illegal abortion but she wasn’t all the brave as Maria thinks, since she didn’t actually raise Gordon herself. And do we think Maria will now think twice about having a bit of fun after all this? I wonder. Kirk was very sweet and brotherly wasn’t he? I like seeing little scenes like that. I can’t really blame Shelley for getting upset that Sunita is seeing Ciaran after what Ciaran tried to do to her and Peter but I do have a suspicion that Shelley *is* a bit jealous. I wouldn’t be surprised if she isn’t more than a bit attracted to him in spite of it all. Does Ashley not call Beryl “Mum” anymore? I noticed that Ashley said he had seen Maxine “this morning” but before the funeral he said he had seen her “yesterday”.
Wow, I’m breathless. I’m also expecting Corrie to go downhill as it usually does after a few weeks of drama like this. New storylines will seem banal and inane after all that. But we still have more to come in the Richard saga before it’s completely over. Hold on to your hats!
