Jun. 15th, 2005 08:11 amThe first same sex marriage between two members of the Canadian military took place yesterday here in Nova Scotia. There are several more weddings planned for other couples at various military bases across the country in the upcoming months. The Canadian Military has been accepting openly gay members into the ranks for about 15 years now. But we're still waiting for the federal government to pass the bill about allowing it. Each province that allows it now had their supreme court strike down the law under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms act. I think 6 or 7 provinces allow it now but the feds still have to ratify it to make it law across the country. You'd think it would be routine if courts have determined it's unconstitutional to bar gays from getting legally wed but the big kerfluffle is the definition of the word "marriage". Advocates want it called a civil union instead of a marriage but what's the difference for Gawd's sake! Tradition dictates "marriage" is a man and a woman. Well Tradition dictated that women weren't allowed to vote either and the world would end if they did. Women voted. The world didn't end. Get over it. And Congratulations to the newlyweds! :)
Jacko is now going to promise not to let kids or their families sleep in his bed. You know, it occurs to me that although he's been accused of molestation twice over the course of about 10 or 15 years, if he really was doing it, wouldn't more people have come forward? Ok some of them were probably blinded by celebrity but surely *some* people would have lashed out and sued him if their kids had been molested no matter who did it, famous or not!
A teen in Kansas has been charged with battery against a teacher. For puking on him. The teacher said the kid puked on him on purpose and charged him!
