Jul. 28th, 2005 08:31 amRead an account of the funeral for Patrick Christopher-Carter, the actor that started Shakespeare by the Sea. Instead of a minute silence to honour him, they had a moment of applause, the ultimate mark of respect, approval and appreciation for an actor's performance. It turned into a standing ovation! How much would an actor love that!? And you know, i think i'd love that at my funeral.
New movie out this weekend, Must Love Dogs. Diane Lane and John Cusak. It's a chick flick, about internet blind dating and i like both actors a lot. Diane Lane has been acting since she was 13 and made 13 movies before she was 20! No wonder i thought she was a bit older than she is, only turning 40 this year! Definitely going to make the effort to see this one.
Not only is the annualBegBuskerfest coming up but it seems the organizers themselves are going to be hawking for donations! They haven't got as much money in the coffers from sponsors and the costs of the festival are rising. (police, garbage disposal, bleachers) The feds cut back on contributions and the province cut them out altogether. It really irritates me when the performers lay guilt trips on the people watching. "I don't do this for my own health yannow" Well yannowhat? if i like you, you'll get money. If you beg and guilt me, you won't get any. I don't bother too much with the buskers anymore anyway though i did see that the Australian trio Oka is coming back again and i'd like to hear them. They've very good about the contribution aspect too.
Which brings me to tipping. Tipping is becoming invasive. I don't mind tipping if i get table service at a restaurant or cafe or bar but when you start seeing cups with tip signs on them at coffee shops, food court places and even Tim Hortons, that irritates me. Will corner stores me next? I am not saying they don't work hard or do a good job but it's an assembly line of coffee pouring and donut gathering and sandwich making for the most part. I rarely tip. The only place i do once in awhile, if i have some little coins to get rid of, is my regular coffee place. They know me, they know what i usually have, they often have it on the counter if they see me coming through the mall to the shop and i love the little sign on the cup "Tippucino. Thankx a latte" At least they show appreciation. :)
Michael Jackson wants to move to Germany. And apparently on a travel website, gridskipper.com, Berlin is the most fetish-friendly city in the world. Coincidence? I think not.
