Last night in Halifax, we had a visit from Shobna Gulati, aka Sunita from Coronation Street! She was on her way to Toronto to the British Isles Show this weekend but we arranged for her to stop in here on the way. We have a committe that's been doing this for the past few years (Les, Eileen, Maria, Geena and Jez in the past visits). We had a crowd of over 600 there. She was really great and was filled with lots of energy and enthusiasm. She answered questions, she took it upon herself to walk down into the crowd to meet, sign and pose for pics and then answered more questions. She is flirty, and friendly and really loves meeting the fans. She really finds the people in Canada so polite and friendly too. She signed autographs on her official head shot postcard and posed for polaroid photos for 100 people and still seemed to have a lot of energy after that long day and evening. She's traveling with her doctor brother, Raj who seems very nice too.
She landed on Sunday and spent most of the last two days doing media interviews and did manage to get some shopping in. When the actors go to the Brit Show in Toronto, they basically sit at a desk and sign and pose for photos for 2 hour stretches several times a day and that's it. Here, they do a question and answer, talk a bit about themselves, the show, the other actors, lots of behind the scenes goss and it really has more of an 'up close and personal' feel. I have to say all the actors that have come so far have really been generous with their time, kind and really appreciative of the fans. They've also been very surprised at how popular the show is here and grateful at how respectful the fans and even the press seem to be towards them compared to in the UK.
I did take lots of pics on my film camera because the flash on it goes much farther than the flash on the digital and my friend took some digital too so i'll put them all together in an album later in the week. I always do a bit of a write up and a little web page and those pages always get the most hits on my site. Anyway, i really enjoyed the evening and got a good hour and a half close up view because my friend and i volunteered to take the polaroid photos :)
