Just came back from the corner store and saw that one of the panels of the bus shelter has been smashed out. Again. Two big rocks the size of shoes inside the shelter. I guess that was no accident then. On the plus side, it's quite mild out (well 2 degrees, but that's quite balmy compared to most of this month). Long range forecast for Saturday is sunny. Let's hope it holds so [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee's plane has no problem landing. Getting snowed in *after* he gets here is not a problem :)

I'm going to watch some of the Oscars tonight. I always do watch some of it but never stay up to the very end. I am curious to see how Ellen DeGeneres does, too. I've only seen one nominated picture this year, The Queen and that was just under the wire. I would actually like to see Babel and maybe Little Miss Sunshine. As much as i wasn't that keen on the movie, i think Marie Antoinette should get the award for the costumes. They did a fantastic job there. Apparently Tom Cruise is presenting something this year. He's on a mission to get his career and profile raised up a bit. Damage control i think. Also, both Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz are presenting. I bet the backstage will be a bit awkward there :)

Just a few notes as i watch this so far...
Intro with Ellen, not bad. Bits that made it look like she was caught on camera backstage... different. And i liked her wandering through the audience too.
Always something cringingly embarassing though and the triple "comedian" thing with Will Farrell, Jack Black and John C. Reilly? awful!
Ooh i saw one of the nominated animated shorts! It was The Danish Poet, they showed it before The Queen yesterday! And it's produced by the Canadian National Film Board.
Orchestra cutting off the speeches. Rude, Rude, Rude.
Sound effects "choir" ... clever

Many of the gowns seemed to be either strapless or halter style. Saw dressed i didn't really like but nothing yet that screams "What were you thinking?" but.... what i have noticed this year and in past recent years is that many of the women have these wonderful and expensive formal gowns and do nothing with their hair! It just hangs there or worse. Cameron Diaz's and Rachel Weiz's hair looks like they were trying to grow it out, pulled it back and the rest shagged out all endy and sticking out. Someone else's hair looked like she used rollers or a curling iron on it but forgot to brush it out after.

It's almost 11:30, don't think i'll last much longer. the middle bit is always so boring.
