Oct. 22nd, 2014 05:58 pmGood grief! Crisis in Canada!
Apparently there were shots fired on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. A soldier on duty at the war memorial was shot and killed (ironically). Another man managed to drive up to the buildings and he got in and was killed by the Sargeant at Arms inside. All of the party leaders, including the Prime Minister are all safely away from it now. It almost sounds like the man who drove to the government buildings after the initial shooting might have been the one that killed the guard but there were also reports of gunshots inside the main Parliament building. They seem to think there's a second gunman or they aren't sure, though so Parliament Hill has been in lockdown all afternoon. That almost sounds as if they think he might still be hiding inside, doesn't it? It's pretty scary. That kind of thing never happens in Canada. Not much anyway. There have been multiple shootings before, famously one man shooting a group of women at a college in Montreal, but not an attack on the government buildings like this.
As a result, the military base around here has increased security and the flags at city hall and province house went down to half mast.
