While I wait for another error in uninstalling something here, I might as well start wandering around the page.

I've had to metaphorically beat my laptop up to try to get something to either install or uninstall and didn't have much luck yesterday. Someone came up with another thing to try this morning so I did that and then started the update on the older version of the application, one of the tools i use for data reporting. I watched the installer unpack it's temporary files and crossed my fingers while pleading to the IT Gods. Make it work this time. It occurred to me, do people still do that? Cross their fingers for luck? I mean younger people. People of my generation probably do. Is it something that's carried on/passed on through the generations? You see your parents do it so you pick it up, that sort of thing. The other "cross your fingers" thing is very different than hoping/wishing for luck. You might promise to do something, for instance, and crossing your fingers behind your back means you're lying or you don't have to be held to your promise, that sort of thing. You'd get in trouble if your mother found out you didn't clean your room like you said you were going to because you had your fingers crossed.

By the way, crossing fingers for luck obviously worked! My software is now cleanly installed and i can use it again. Ok, the solution that my coworker dug up was likely why but I'll take my superstitions where I can get them!
