Water aerobics was fun last night. Sharon and i laughed so hard a few times i thought we'd sink and drown lolol At one point we had these "pool noodles"... they're about 6 feet long, like a hard sponge material, about 4 inches in diameter, like a long noodle... they float. Mostly kids play with them in the pool but we sometimes use them to lean back against to do exercises with. anyway, this time we're in the deep pool and she's got us straddling them like hobby horses or carousel horses, "bicycling" down the length of the pool and back. ooh err!!! Then we had to pair up, one behind the other, both still straddling the noodles, now they're long enough so that either end sticks up out of the water in front and in back of you. The back person holds onto the noodle of the one in front and the one in front uses their arms to swim them both up the pool. (don't jiggle that noodle, Share, oh yes yes YES! erm... anyone got a cigarrette?)

Later on we had these "flutter" boards, foam boards like mini surf boards that you can lie on and kick. Well she wanted us to sit on them. Just try to get something that wants to float under your backside and keep it there while you're trying to "swim" with your upper body. Mine slid out and flew into the next lane, nearly beaning a lane swimmer. Er.. scuse me, could you please float that back? Sharon couldnt' get the thing to stay at all and the woman that was helping her was nearly peeing in pool she was laughing so hard.

All in all an enjoyable class even if it does sound like total chaos to most of you! :)

On a completely different note, i'm reading a book by Michael Marshall Smith. Not the one [livejournal.com profile] naturalbornkaos recommended, "Spares" (library branch i was in didn't have it), but "One of Us". Bizarre. Small appliances walk and talk and it feels like the whole plot/world takes place in cyberland. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the whole thing took place on a holodeck or simulator since half of it is so unreal. I mean, the lead character (i can't really call him a "hero") even mentions being able to visit his dead grandparents via the Net where they took up residence just before they died. Freak me out. the premise of the book is that this guy makes money on the slightly illegal trade of taking on people's dreams and memories for a few hours. But he gets loaded with a memory of a murder and the perpetrator, a beautiful woman, won't take the memory back. He can get convicted for it because he remembers doing it even though he didn't actually do it. So he's in the processof convincing her to take it back now. In a conventional book, she'd get the memory back, not get convicted out of mitigating circumstances, they'd fall in love and happy ever after. This book is so fucked that anything could and probably will happen. I must know!

I loved "One of Us", possibly my favourite of his.

It's .er... interesting lol quite an assault on the senses really, i mean... the image of a herd of coffee makers parading across a Mexican backroad? He's got quite an imagination. The scary thing is, i wonder how much of his world will actually be ours in 15 years time?

I find with MMS, there's far more very worrying philosophical food-for-thought than any other author I've read...

There's infinitely more than just quirky sci-fi lying in there. He's certainly one of the best, most observant, frank and affecting reporters of the human condition I've ever come across.

Do stick with it - hope you enjoy it. :) Get "Spares" next!

I will definitely stick with it. I have to see how it all comes out. Have you read this one? I think our next phone conversation needs to be about MMS, you are so much better at interpreting stuff than i am.
