Erm... I won't ask why it was "useful" but the history of it was quite interesting. I've been to the Costume museum in Bath and an "underwear" exhibition in Vancouver that both had some corests and i can't believe the torture women put their body through willingly!

Oooh. Do you do that often? We have a Society for Creative Anachronism here, or we used to. Thought about joining once but never did.
