Here in Canada we started getting BBC cAnada a year ago in November and with it Eastenders! I've seen it before a couple of different times but the PBS station that we get here doesn't carry it. I started watching it and it's fast becoming my second favourite soap after Corrie and indeed, has surprassed Corrie on occaision. We are a little over a year behind the U.K. broadcasts and falling farther behind because BBC Ca only shows three episodes a week instead of four but well, can't help that.

I was consulting the U.K. sites for spoilers up until last year up to when Steve Owen got blown to smithereens and even before then only finding out some of the major storylines. Since then have mostly been avoiding them when possible though i stumbled across this past Christmas's major storylines by accident when a news article that had Corrie stuff in it was posted and it started with Jamie's death ! Ack!

We are only up to just before Christmas 2001. Lisa's baby is sick and she's been whining about telling PHil. Mel held her off but it's inevitable even if i didn't already know it was going to happen. Nat hasn't had her baby yet and Barry and Pat don't know who Nathan really is. Zoe is starting to be sucked into Roxy's world and Kat is looking for her. Lynn and Garry got married, she didn't take Beppe up on his offer, more's the pity. She deserves Garry after that. Pauline is in a panto as is that awful Robby and that nasty Miss Thing from the shop. Phil just found out Sharon aborted his brother's baby 6 years ago and is in a snit ... which is odd cause i thought he hated Grant!

I watch EE in the omnibus repeat on either Friday or Saturday morning and the most breathtaking 2 hours i have seen was the episodes where Kat told Zoe she was her mother and they had that two hander between them and then Kat went off and cut her wrists, Zoe ran away thinking Kat was dead and Charlie ran Harry out of town on a rail. Whoah! Stunning stuff! Am now anxiously waiting to see Little Mo crack the iron over Trevor's head because boy they've set that up and he's really got it coming. I would love to see Phil Mitchel take a piece out of him or more appropriately, Mo Slater and she could do it too lol!

Anyway, anyone wants to talk EE do drop me a line, but keep in mind the spoiler warning :)

Hear, hear. Strangely my younger daughter thought long-standingness was enough to justify a marriage regardless. Worrying. Anyway you will see where it gets her.
I catch EE occasionally, so i can comment a bit. But will try to avoid spoilers!
I think the Slater stuff was brilliant. But sometimes I think the whole thing is turning into a pantomime, with villains etc. Indeed at times the whole place seems inhabited entirely by nasty people, whiners like Pauline and a few put-upon victims. How much more can Sonia take without dropping out and ceasing to be the resident proponent of education? The educated always end up being wimps in EE!

Don't tell me Don't tell me! LOL Actually she was having the baby the first night or two i started watching.

I agree, just because Lynn was with Garry for 7 years, is not a reason to go through with the marrige. Mind you, i doubt very much it was real "love" with Beppe at that stage but it did indicate a very real dissatisfaction with Garry. I'd like to see more of their sister Belinda though. she seems like such a delicious snob!

O yes forgot to say- in uderstanding imputed motivation you have to factor in the convention of undying Italian-type family loyalty among east-end families. I think it's probably an anachronism if not a total myth; the Beale's have certainly fragmented utterly since the death of Lou.
But that explains the strange reactions of Phil, or is supposed to.
They are all serial non-monogamists, but remarkably incestuously for people living in a city of several million, which nicely entangles the plot-lines.
And they all seem incapbale of finding jobs except with each other!

LOl Corrie is like that too. Most of the neighbours, even when newly moved in, manage to find work with in a cobble of their front step! I like the Slaters really, even Little Mo who had been beaten down so long by that bastard husband of her. It's frustrating but also very realistic. "old" Mo reminds me a lot of my ex mother in law, looks in a way and her plain speaking though my MIL wasn't as fierce LOL
