God i really hate it when LJ shifts my viewing style back to the default horrible business with the blue header and context menus! Just try to find where you reset it back to the viewing style you want? (i did find it eventually. it's Viewing Options").

So where was i?

Oh yes. Stupid bank robbers. Locals robbed a bank yesterday. Banks put dye packets in the bag of money which then explodes all over the money and your hands etc. The dye burst. The robbers later tried to spend the dye stained money. Convenience store clerk called the cops and they were able to track down the thieves.

Apparently there are still some communities in Nova Scotia that are dry. I.e. no alcohol and have been since 1929. I didn't realize that some areas of Canada also joined the Prohibition/temperance movement. In order for anyone in those communities to get a liquor license or open a wine store, there has to be a town vote to lift the prohibition.

Apparently this upcoming LJ search function will enable anyone to search for text contained in public entries. Already i see people locking their journals to Friends Only. I usually only do that for something work related or something that's a customized filter on occaision but i may consider going friends only. I'll think about it. I don't really have anything to hide but it's a bit intrusive isn't it? What do you all think?

And you know that gesture that you can make by thumbing your nose and waggling your fingers at someone? That is apparently called or used to be called "pulling bacon". Who knew?

ETA: Ohhh Apparently the Picton trial in BC has already done the jury selection and opening arguments were yesterday so we're already under way.

Yeah, that annoyed me no end today too. If I said I wanted to stick with the old style when they first introduced that why the hell would I have changed my mind now? (and who was the idiot who thought the current default style was a good idea anyway? ugly! harder to use! bleh! etc... ;-P )

otoh, I am cheerfully amused to find that somewhere along the line my preference - the style that looks like the *old* lj style - has been renamed to "Dystopia". mwahahaha

lol yes. I don't feel deprived at all! (considering that's one of the general definitions)

Since liquor-licencing has always been a matter for the local authorities, there were chunks of rural Wales and the highlands and islands that had no Sunday opening or even no outlets at all till relatively recently, but I think most have gone the way of "normality" now.
In fact the latest set of laws about it leave the local authority with all the work, but actually very little right to exercise judgement on licences, hours etc.

Each province regulates a lot of this. Recently they've lifted the no-Sunday shopping rule but it's up to the retailer (i think) what hours they can be open though i'm not sure, but it's possible that the province has actually deemed Sunday hours. Not sure there.

I am all excited about the search tools on the horizon. I am a library geek - retrieval tools are essential to good archivism!

[Searching public entries is already fairly easy [Google can be pushed quite a long way, and the no-spidering instruction isn't foolproof]]

I can't see how the new search feature will be all that useful for me but one never knows and you don't know how it could be used (i.e. employers or stalkers though i haven't had *that* problem yet)

U heard on last night's news that Picton had admitted killing 49 women and had hoped to kill one more to make it an even 50. I am not sure how true that is.

Supposedly that's what he told the police or else it was an undercover cop they put in the cell with him. I don't know how admissable in court that would be.
