Mom and i went to the 12 acre flea market. We only managed to get round about 6 or 7 of the acres but it was marvellous! Flea markets these days seem to be filled with new stuff and new tat. This was a real old fashioned one filled with some new but mostly old stuff, still lots of tat but antique tat! :)) Stuff you probably had in your house when you were a kid, no matter how old you are! Mom saw toys she played with. There were old parts for various things like cars, stoves, tools, etc, furniture both new and old, lots of china and dishes, books, dvds, tapes, clothes, tools, leather stuff, jewellry, ornamental things. Lots more. One thing in particular that we saw that had the "wow" factor was an antique dentist chair, complete with a little sink that could be plumbed in (rinse and spit!) and there was a big bamboo bar, perfect for your next backyard barbeque! A big white plastic round globe like object, which was a stereo from the 70's that had a radio, three channel mixer and an 8-track tape deck in it! There was a big marquee tent that had more things and inside there, one of the sellers recognized me from high school and mentioned that Dartmouth High is supposed to be having a reunion this year. That would be my graduating class of 1977!

I bought a pair of side plates for $5 but I didn't get too much else, other than some homemade bread and cheap sunglasses. Mom's find of the day was a Pyrex glass teapot. She'd had one of those for 30 years before it got broken and you can't find them these days unless you want to pay $50 upwards for them even at flea markets because they haven't been made since the early 80's. Mind you, they are much cheaper on ebay and i might just get one there. I wonder if it would arrive in one piece? hmmm....

Yesterday we went to Wheaton's which has all kinds of nice things. Gifts, kitchen gadgets, spices, teas, preserves, furniture, ornaments, artwork, linens, lace, a real "everything" type of store. I got a dry soup mix and a Banana Chai Tea mix which i haven't tried yet. Loved the retro chrome kitchen tables and chairs they had. Pics behind the link and the gallery is here.

The other funny thing that happened last night... We were watching movies (Music and Lyrics and Dreamgirls) and Laurie's big black cat came in and presented himself for a brushing. Mom brushed him and again a bit later. I tried but he decided he didn't like my technique so actually went and sat on Mom's lap. All over it, as only a 25 pound beast can! Unprecedented, is that! Anyway, she brushed him a bit more and put the brush down. But he bared his teeth a few moments later and that's not unusual, he can be a bit mardy like that. Mom said oh i don't know where to touch him or what to do (i.e. because he might bite if she tried to pat or push him off), I turned around and in my best Eddie Murphy imitation growled (as if i was the cat) "Yo, pick up da brush, bitch!!" We both cracked up and the cat went flying off, just stopping long enough to glare at me, and i thought he was going to lunge at my neck!

These are the plates i bought for myself..

Looks like it's a true treaure hunter's dream! And if you ever have a chance, check out the Stash tea company website - www.stashtea.com . It's an Oregon company, but has a wonderful array of teas. You can buy some of the teas in "bulk" (vacuum sealed bags), but in their store there is a cigar glass tube with some of the tea in it for you to smell. I get lost in the place everytime I go...and always come home with new finds.

I so missed that. I got home as they were cleaning it up (Of course, it's on the way from the airport).

The pyrex teapot is on my list. I got the corningware glass and brass coffee carafe with warmer at a yardsale two years ago for $3.00. With a caveat - The owner told me she would only sell it to someone who would care for it and use it. She really didn't want to sell it as it had been a wedding gift over 47 years ago. It sits in front of me with tea in it. :)

I love those kinds of sales. I got some history with it too. I will so check out the one in Sept. I usually do the Eastern Shore, 50km one too.

I think i might try to get one of those teapots on eBay. Seems they aren't that expensive but the shipping will bring it up to about 25 or 30 anyway and i wouldn't want to pay more than that for it. They pour so nicely too!
