The Weather Gods are giving us a bit of a break from the snow. It's -35 with the wind chill today, -22 without. Too fecking cold to snow, that's what it is! Cold enough for the harbour to be steaming, such is the difference in temperature between the cold Atlantic water and the colder air.

D'you like that word, "feck"? The Irish use it, have been even before Father Ted made it trendy and although it's derived from it's ruder cousin, it's almost as conveniently all-purpose in usage as an expletive, adjective, noun or adverb. Oddly enough though,as a verb it doesn't quite work as well as "fuck" and it never seems to be used for the actual act of .. I mean,,, you never hear someone say "we went home after closing time and fecked" or "Ooh baby, feck me!" or even the ubiquitous "Go Feck yerself". Having said that, "Feck off" works just as well as the alternative.

It looks nicer in print, in postings or on irc, even more polite somehow and far more acceptable than the other, although saying it out loud sometimes sounds like you just got "fuck" wrong. You've got to get just the right tone of voice (and a tang of the Irish in your voice doesn't hurt! LOL!)

There now. I've done a bit of philosophizing for a change :) Well it's Friday after all :)
