tvordljStupid cold.
It started off being somewhat chesty, bronchial and, since i didn't know how bad it would get, i had that day surgery rescheduled. They gave me a date near the end of July. And instead of having it first thing in the morning, it's the middle of the afternoon so i have to starve all day! Ack! Not only that, it's also the day of the Parade of Sail. Ah well.
Anyway, i am back to work this week and now the cold appears to be traveling up into my head. Bleurgh. Not happy. I've had a lot of sick time this year, well a lot for me anyway. Between my back, and this cold and i'll lose more time for the surgery... I normally only take a couple of sick days a year unless i get the flu or my back gives me trouble.
I watched the Jubilee flotilla on Sunday. Pity about the lousy weather. I do admire HM for standing up the whole time on a day that was clearly chilly and very wet. She's a real trooper. I felt bad for Prince Phil though. He didn't look all that well. I'm sure that weather contributed to this bladder infection he's been hospitalized for. Who gets hospitalized for that? Well i suppose if you're over 90 and have not long recovered from heart surgery they take no chances. I wonder if HM feels guilty about it? He is likely not allowed to sit down or go where it's warm and dry unless she does and she wasn't about to. And she wouldn't have been able to stay home and nurse him, not when there's Jubilee stuff to do. And yes, i do think she does take him cups of tea and aspirin if she's off duty and they're snugged up in their wing of the palace relaxing and being informal. Why not?
I did chuckle during the broadcast. CBC news anchor Peter Mansbridge related an anecdote that even made him chuckle a bit about the British media referring to the weather as "unrelentingly damp" rather than use the R word. It's been a bit damp here this week so far too but nothing like the flooding in the underground/subways in Toronto!
