Story in the paper today. A man shot his 5 dogs then burned down his house. Warned the fire fighters that there was live ammunition inside the house and invited them to enjoy the fire. The firefighters let the house burn as it was a write off already (as they said "The house was fully involved") and made sure the neighbouring houses were safe. Buddy even handed out cookies from a jar while watching the fire and then calmly got in the police car himself :)

There's a local man who's living in North Carolina who killed his wife, also a local. She was strangled, he tried to convince everyone she did it herself... with a tea towel. Yeah right. Anyway he confessed and now the trial is just ending, only to see if he'll be convicted of first degree murder (death penalty in that state) or a lesser murder conviction with jail time only. closing arguments today. Oh yes, 750,000$ life insurance policy at stake, that he was very concerned with apparently but he insists it was a spur of the moment thing during a heated argument. He had been having an affair and she had found out.

Ontario supreme court has decided that the law stating marriages are only legal for opposite sex couples is unconstitutional. They have allowed same sex marriages and performed one between two men that very day. The men had been living together for 22 years, and the photos in the paper,... oh they looked soooo happy! I think if they smiled any harder they would have chewed off their own ears! :)))) You can get a license in that province but your own province probably won't recognize the marriage, so you'd still have to go to court in your own province to appeal the lower court decision that was knocked down in Ontario. I forsee the domino effect here.

The provincial government has been spending or promsing to spend money and build new schools, hand over fist. Election will be called any day :)

Photo in the paper, A big burly cop behind the counter serving at tim Horton's coffee shop volunteering during the company's annual fund raiser day. They donate to a fund that sponsor's a kids' camp for kids that can't afford to go to camp. Cop was wearing a fund raiser tshirt ... uniform trousers... and around his waist..his handcuffs and gun! LOL ! Guess nobody will try to rob that place! :)

According to windjade the election is rumored to be called this weekend for a possible July 15th election date.

Oh and apparently there was quite an uproar over the photo used in the Herald yesterday of the newly married couple kissing. Come on people. They got married. A kiss seals the deal so to speak. I wish people would realize the world is changing and things are the society norm these days.

You missed a story! The guy near Bridgewater who had a big police chase going, shots fired, etc etc...ended up being fatally shot by cops. :(

Yes i saw that but it was less bizarre than the guy offering cookies to the fire watchers LOL!

I know, re the couple kissing, a lot of people aren't comfortable with that and even me, i'm slightly uncomfortable but only because i'm not used to seeing it i think. I have absolutely no problem with same sex marriages and i'm delighted with the court's decision :)

I think the story that really got me today was the woman whose hands were cut off by a machete by her neighbor cause she thought it was that woman who called the child protection services on her..it was the school apparently..but geez..violent!!!
