I left my ereader on my desk at work. Arrgh. It'll be ok but I miss it. I guess i can use that excuse as a reason to dig into my unread magazine pile. I get a few of them on subscription but they stack up for ages before I get around to reading them. They're mostly travel mags and i love the photos. Often will see reference to a place I'd like to visit. I did go through two last night, one is a tourism magazine for Britian and in it was an article on Shakespeare related places. They showed a picture of a medeival hall about an hour drive from Manchester so that's on the list for a possible road trip sometime.

Having said that, I suppose once we're married and he's living here, we won't get to Manchester as often though I'm not planning to avoid the place because both of us still have friends there and he's got family in Ipswich, another area I've never been. We've still not done our Scotland road trip either and there's still plenty of areas in the UK neither of us  have been. Once G. is living here, we won't be restricted to 2 week vacation periods so a 3 week holiday driving all over the place would be great.

Yes, folks, we will start to plan a wedding, probably this time next year in order to save for it and plan it properly. He won't be moving here straight away because of two things. One is that it's smoother and less complicated if he goes back and applies from outside the country. The other thing is that he will need a doctor due to diabetes and I can't get him covered under my work medical insurance if he's not a permanant resident. These are important things to consider.

Back to the magazines, I also looked through a National Geographic Traveller and came across a special offer for a dvd/digital download for a Travel Photography lecture series. It was on sale from 79.99 to 29.99, or 27.99 if you chose digital only. Wahey! You can stream them or download them or both if you want, you can get it for iOS or a format that will play on Android (I think, wmv? will that work on Android? doesn't matter, I won't be playing it on my phone anyway).

I'm really sorry about G's father. It must have been hard for you to be away from him at that time, but it's great that you got to visit with his dad before he died... that's a much better kind of visit.

Wedding plans! Eeeeee! Exciting.

It was difficult, especially leaving on the day it ended up happening. It was better seeing his dad as i did. He was ill but he was still himself and he enjoyed our company.

Tim and I were married in the US of A and I was allowed to stay here while applying for legal resident status as it was 'considered inhumane to separate husband and wife'. Mind you, that was 25 years ago - likely things have changed. Does Canada have anything like that?

As far as i know, it depends on the whim of the immigration officer on the day you apply to have his visitor's visa extended. Plus, as i said, he can't get medically insured under my blue cross or get a provincial health card unless he's got a resident's or work visa.

I meant '15 years' in my previous comment, not 25. I forgot about the medical situation for Graham. We hired the Immigration Consultant from Tim's work and he guided us through the maze of red tape. It was worth it.

Yes there's a local immigration society here and I plan to call them for resources and advice and maybe even get a consultant, we'll see. They also I think, sometimes help immigrants get jobs though I think that's more the case in non-english speakers
