We have started to spend the money we received for wedding presents. Well, i say started but that's not strictly true. We've spent all our gift cards on household stuff (rice cooker, toaster, drying rack for clothes, large photo frame etc) and spent most of the cash as well but had deposited all the cheques in the bank. We intended to buy a new larger television and stand but were waiting until G. moved here to pick one out together. The tv i have is, I think, a 27 inch but he would prefer a bigger one and the stand I have now will not fit anything larger plus it's in pretty rough shape, old and saggy. I'm sick of it so a new stand will be nicer.

Last weekend we went tv and stand shopping and found a stand at Kent building supply. It was marked down on clearance but we still ended up paying $40 for delivery because the flat pack was really big and really, really heavy. We might have had someone put it in the car for us but we'd never have got it into the apartment ourselves. The end price with taxes ended up being what we budgeted for anyway. They brought that yesterday, two very large and strong looking young men hefted it in. It's a dark wood, fairly long, a few shelving areas I think. I can't link to a sample because the store doesn't carry it anymore. The stand I have now is larger and had a large opening that surrounds the tv with shelving up one side so this will make it look more open and there should still be room to put some of the photos and things on it that I have now.

We went to a couple of different places to look at televisions. I had a budget in mind and we didn't think we'd bother with a "smart" tv that had all the apps and stuff that we probably wouldn't use. Guess what? I think the one we decided on is that sort. We were going for a 43 inch screen. There really aren't a lot of them out there that aren't "smart" though there were a couple of likely candidates at Best Buy. But they also had a store brand one which we are assured is made by a "name", they thought probably made by Sharp which does make good televisions. It had the Smart feature and also a built in Roku box which is a streaming device and the only kind we could find that had that is a Sharp so it likely is that manufacturer.

The one we saw was on sale AND it is the newest 4K ultra HD screen which, in the name brands, makes it a lot more expensive. This price, even not being on sale, was very good for all those features. I think we will go for that one and are planning to get it Friday night. I just thought, too, I can buy it online and pick it up at the store and then we can make sure we get the sale! The salesman said that the sale was supposed to be over on Thursday but sometimes is held over longer. Even if it isn't, I think we should get it anyway because even the regular price is pretty good and we do have the money in the wedding account for it with a bit left over. We'll have to work out how to use the Roku box I guess!

We'll come home with a new tv on Friday night and no time to really enjoy it because we're away the weekend at the Blomidon Inn down in the Annapolis Valley, a really nice part of the province. The inn is Victorian and they have an older building on the property that has the room where we'll be staying. They upgraded us because there is a wedding in the hotel that night and mostly the sort of room we wanted are sold out. Plus, I did tell them it's our anniversary and you can sometimes get perks when you tell them you're celebrating something. I think it will be quieter that way but we will book to have dinner in the main inn. My cousin lives not too far away so we will visit them in the afternoon I think and maybe visit one of the wineries before that. The Valley has a handful of wineries and there's a tour bus that goes around them but it doesn't start up until summer.
